In my town we're not allowed to leave the grass clippings on the lawn. We have to dispose of them ourselves (NOT hide them in garbage bags) - we put ours under a tree in the corner by the obnoxious neighbour's house.
Most people where I live put them in Yard Debris garbage cans and have them hauled away every two weeks.

I'm too tight to pay for one and besides, I have a big compost bin in a corner of my yard so it's good to throw some clippings on there every now and then.

I got three really huge bags of compost out of the bin this summer which has gone on my raised vegetable bed and filled in low spots around the back lawn.

Buy a goat instead.

City ordinance against having farm animals on residential property

Paint it's nails, give it a bow and say it's a pet not a farm animal.
Or put it in a frock and say it's your wife.

And how exactly would they know if you mulched instead of bagging?
Do they have lawn clippings police that patrol the streets just waiting to pounce on a person not contributing their share to the dumping of unwanted yard waste?

Most likely over zealous neighbours squeal on you. Happened to us for leaving an old air conditioning unit and a couple of sheets of dry wall next to our garage for seven days. We had already called someone to take them away when the city called. When I asked them how they knew, the said the neighbours had complained.

I think mulching is better anyways.

Get yourself a Honda HRX 217HMA. No messing about with pull cords, really good.

Lawn committee, we used to have one. Pissed me off so much I ripped up the lawn and put in a cottage garden.

All your stripes should go this way!

I think leaving clippings and mulching are two different things. Unless the grass is extremely long, mulching leaves no clippings on the surface. Leaving clippings on top is not good for the lawn anyway. Have you tried mulching, Stel? The grass cuttings stay in the blade area untill they look like they've been through a food processor -then they clump together in squishy lumps and drop to the surface of the soil rather than sitting on top of the grass.

Do you have one? I looked it up and it's very nice but quite expensive. I could afford it but seems to be over and above what I think a mower is worth so would only consider that if it's going to change my life overnight or something

I had an older Honda model and it was very reliable. This model is new and has lots of features but as you say its spendy. Probably depends on how much lawn you have. Can’t whether it would change your life, but look at it this way, you’ll save yourself the sales tax.
Lawns come with stripes? What are you doing, painting it in? shock

No I'm not, and quite seriously, I got told off cos I tended to mow the lawn in a spiral cos it's on a slant and there's an olive tree in the middle. I was told I should mow so that the stripe went along with the stretch of the house. Apparently it makes the house look bigger or some such thing. Really, some people get very serious about the petty stuff over here. Keep your sense of humor, you'll need it.

What do they know? They all mow their lawns with diagonal stripes here. I rebel and do up and down ones mrgreen
Criss cross them!
