are they any good?
I like Netgear stuff - cheap but competent in my experience.
nothing wrong with it, what in particular?
very good rebate offers -regular too, enough to make one suspicious! lol

The one we had in mind ran out an hour ago, but it seems they are regular so we will probably go with it next time based on this feedback, thanks )
We had the non-wireless Netgear and it was great. It worked fine and never had a problem with it. We still have it if anyone is interested

Our wireless is a Linksys and again, we have never had a problem with it. Would highly recommend it but don't know if you ever get offers on it. It is for both wireless and plug in which makes it cheaper than having to buy a wireless card for the desktop.
PC World ranks them number one. I thinks that is in this month issue.
We have a netgear too - no problems here 8)
First wireless we had was Netgear and it lasted about a year then quit working. No problems with it up to that point
Now have a Belkin, also working fine.
All the brands mentioned are much a much in the consumer world.
Netgear is as easy to set up as any, but a little work on your part will ensure your privacy, passwords, firewalls that sort of thing all go "some" way to stopping the non-persistant attacks, though with any "home" router, if someone wants in, they'll get in I'm afraid.
I've got one, and it works..
Linksys here, no problems thou electronics are blessed with infinite reliability wink

As a side note I was wondering if you all use the wireless security on your router. Everywhere I have been you can access people’s networks, I always use encryption and turn off the SSID broadcast but is it because people don’t care or don’t know how?

A bit of both I suspect, As a side note, if your using WEP to secure the router, you may as well turn it off, lol. Takes about 5 minutes to break, depending on traffic.
If the PC has a password, you have at least another barrier, don't just rely on the routers security.

No I dont use encryption on my wireless, mainely because I live a mile down a dirt road with the nearest 6 neighbours are spaced along a half mile of that and none of them use wireless or have a clue about pc's in general.
Very very unlikely anyone would come by here road warrioring.
I've never tried any NetGear products - but if it keeps you away from buying a Linksys - then GET IT!!!

We have a Linksys wireless router and it's the biggest PoS we've ever owned.

Yeah, 128 Bit WEP encryption. It may 'take 5 minutes to break', but are potential hackers going to bother with that or go for a network with no encryption? You know, its kind of like a burglar alarm - it doesn't guarantee your house won't be burgled, but a burglar is more likely to try one without an alarm up the street.

I have Linksys too. Its been superb. I can see all of my my neighbours' networks. :o
