Any fans of cult TV series The Prisoner out there?
I used to try and watch it a few years ago, I haven't seen all the episodes but what little I did see I liked. The only thing that annoyed me was Patrick McGoohan's voice shock

Sky One is are said to be planning a remake and are going to be putting their own spin on the story and according the the BBC News website the show will not be located in the welsh village of Portmeirion. I wonder where they'll set in then?
Any sugestions? wink
I wonder if they'll have that big balloon too?

I saw them all on Channel 4 about 10 years ago when they re-ran them - I really liked it but I didn't really have a clue what was going on, beyond the surface stuff.

I think the white ball that acted as security was called Rover. It looked really silly but was so menacing that you forgot about what it looked like after the first few episodes.
I agree with you about Mcgoohan's voice, but I have to say he was the dog's bollox in Braveheart.

Swindon?

When he tries to escape, you could have him driving up the road to another roundabout, but never getting anywhere, just another part of the council estate....

Read that story the other day, must admit its not too inspiring. would be interesting to see a paralell version rather than a remake, or something along the lines of a reworking of the themes. But then its down to ideas, isnn't it. Thats why the original series was so good, its had ideas, it knew where it was going, up to a point. It would never make it on tv these days, networks rely on short attention spans and cram their shows full of noise and whatnot.
There were several books written in the aftermath of the original series, both of which were as cryptic as the show but set in entirely different locations and had little to do with the "Who are you, who do you work for?" Attitude of the show. A remake ?
No. A reworking? yes, but it wouldn't really be the Prisoner, would it?
Questions are a burden, the answers- a prison for one's self.
be seeing you.
Had Christmas Eve dinner at a hotel called "The Village" once. Parties were called by table number. We were number 6. shock
I was a big fan of The Prisoner and have watched all the episodes a few times.

Of course it was very tied up in the 1960s, the Cold War etc. It's also pretty obvious drugs were a big influence on the series. It was all about how to be an individual despite all the propaganda from both sides.

The last two episodes are my favourites. Drug quota very high for those.

There was a really good graphic novel published in the early 90's based around the Prisoner ethos... buggered if I can remember much about it but it had a beardy Patrick McGoohan as No 1.

I was a fan too, and was lucky enough to live within reasonable reach of Portmeirion village, where a lot of it was recorded. I've been there many times.
I introduced this to a couple of guys at work, and one of them became hooked on it and went and got the whole DVD set. Now he wants me to stop by Portmeirion next time I am in the UK and get him a Prisoner jacket!

/o
(be seeing you)

Still holding it against my parents for all the holidays to Shell Island and trips to Harlech, without ever getting to see Portmeirion

Shell Island.. that's a new one on me. It wouldn't be Anglesey by any chance, would it? Shell did come in some years ago, dug holes everywhere and buried some pipeline right across the Island. They must have discovered after all their devastation that no one wanted them there in the first place so they eventually left. lol
Shell Island is a camping site, a few miles south of Harlech at Llanbedr. Spent about 7 or 8 summer holidays there. The locals call it Mochras.

Shell Island, North Wales
Vegas, here's about as much as i could find for the comic. Read the first two issues years ago when they turned up in a bargain bin.. can't remember much about them now..
