Some of the old nursery rhymes that we knew and loved as kids have pretty sinister stories behind them. shock
How fun and interesting that is.
Thanks for sharing.
Goosey Goosey Gander where shall I wander,
Upstairs, downstairs and in my lady's chamber
There I met an old man who wouldn't say his prayers,
I took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs.
Just a warning to you, Goose. Make sure you pray properly or you might find someone grabs your left leg and throws you down the stairs. lol lol
That's a really cool website. Some of the stories are fascinating.

I'm sure that the last line I knew was, "I hit him with the piss pot and threw him down the stairs"
One of my aunts taught me that version when my mother, her sister, wasn't watching. She had a version of "Old King Cole" but mum caught her and wouldn't let her teach it to me.
A great site Mango. I have been wanting a site like this for some time.

Hey John,
My all time favorite game as a kid was BRITISH BULLDOG 123. I think I'll round up the neighbourhood and get a game going this afternoon.
British Bulldogs (game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
British Bulldogs (often used in the singular - British Bulldog - or simply Bulldog[s]) is a tag-based game somewhat similar to Red Rover, played mainly in Britain by children at school.
The game play area is usually a large hall or large area of a playing field, there really are no rules to the size of the pitch, nor the number of players, you just need enough area for the players to maneuver and enough players to have fun. Two teams exist, on one team there are one or two catchers (the Bulldogs) and the other is everyone else. The idea is to get from one end of the pitch to the other end (home) whilst negotiating the bulldogs in the middle. The game is initiated by the bulldogs calling "British Bulldogs 1, 2, 3" or something similar as this may vary from school to school. All the non-bulldog players then begin their run from one end of the pitch to the other, the bulldogs must catch as many of the other team as possible. Once you are caught you then become a bulldog and help with catching the others. If you make it to the other end of the home end of the pitch you are safe. The game then starts another round, home shifts to the opposite end of the pitch and on the call of "British Bulldogs 1, 2, 3" the round begins. The first two caught or last two caught in each game become the Bulldogs for the next one.
There are various ways of catching, most often it is physical tackling to the ground, but in more supervised games one can just tag a player to catch them.
Thanks for the info Monster, and also on that game Bulldog, Mr Snuggles.
