I had "hitches" so to speak and actually applied twice, first application withdrawn. This is a lawyer "trick" to buy time and something I would not have thought of myself, as insurance against any problems down the line.
Anyway, 1st application went to INS about five days before the deadline and was around middle of April 2002. Application was then withdrawn and new one submitted (simultaneously) in November 2002. Adjudication and confirmation of ten year status was carried out in January 2004.
I probably extended the time by 6 months to a year by having a few issues to clear up during the application but didn't worry unduly and it all worked out fine anyway.
Here's another question for those in the know.....
Does anybody know how long it takes from filing the I-751 Petition to approval and issuance of your 10-year Permanent Resident status???
Just curious........this is of course assuming a "normal" application and no hitches.
KR
Depends on the service center you go through.
Current processing times are as follows.
Texas - Sept 28th 2005
Nebraska - August 10th 2005
Cali - June 11 2005
Vermont - May 01 2005
However even though in OK, you should go through TX, it's not unheard of to have your file sent elsewhere to be processed.
You can keep tabs on the processing dates yourself here

Yes we will be filing through the Texas Service Center.
So - I assume that this means that when I send the application in, I will receive a Receipt Notice in the mail? And then from that I can likely extrapolate when my application will come up for consideration with them....
Jeesh - I hope it doesn't take TOO long. Do you think that - if I file in late December 05 - that I may AT LEAST be processed by spring 2006? Would that be a fair assumption?
KR
there is no such thing as a fair assuption with anything to do with the INS.
you will get a receipt in the mail extending your conditional green card (or I-551) status for 1 year.
Just sit back and wait Karen, there's not much else to do.
Ah well - fair enough I guess. I've never really had any problems with the length of time immigration has taken to process stuff in the past so I am sure this time won't be any different. They've always been very prompt.
KR
I got dicked about with my I-751, took Nebraska the best part of 18 months to get back to me with my approval after an RFE was sent out.
Having just done it though, I can tell you that the processing times seem to be coming down, however I think you're pushing your luck with Spring, I think June / July is more reasonable, as the current processing times are best case scenario.
I am in the process right now, we filed in Jan 05, my interview to conclude this part is Jan 24th!! It would have been over 1 yr! Mine went through Charlotte, NC. Just don't expect it o be completed in the said days they tell you, but if it does then all the better, I hope your's is done quicker than mine was.
From my initial filing of Adjustment of Status from tourist to resident to issuing my card with no problems whatsoever....4 years.
......this is of course assuming a "normal" application and no hitches.
KR
You mean there are "normal" applications to Immigration? *chuckles* I was under the impression their mission in life was to make every application complicated and never-ending.
Here's another question about filing our I-751 stuff within the next couple of weeks.
I am of course planning on supplying a lot of bank statements/bills etc. with our application.
With bank statements and other things like bills etc. - how far back should I go??? I mean - should I give them bank statements and bills going back 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, a year??? What???
I'd love to get some advice......
KR
I don't know, but I'd suspect from the date of your marriage? Presumably the point is to demonstrate you have a genuine marriage -would it not look a little odd to only provide proof for the last few months? ??? You could just include one every 3 or 4 months to keep the volume down, though.

Huh, yeah - I dunno either. I was just curious as to what everybody else who got approved did. It's a wonder there are no guidelines about these things.....but then of course if they printed guidelines it would be too easy, right?
KR
With the filing of Evidence, there is no such thing as too much information.
Gearing up to submit now....
Here's a stupid question out of the mental vaults of a paranoid P.R. ........
You know how every immigration form (like the I-751) has a page or two or three before it of filing instructions?
Does anybody here file the form along with those instructional pages attached? I mean - just to make the document look "whole"? Or - should I just extract the TWO pages of that ACTUAL I-751 and fire that off to 'em with my evidence???
KR
How should I put all my I-751 docs together for them??
Would hole-punching it all and putting it all in a ring-binder be OK??
