For League of Gentlemen fans.
Watched the LOG movie last night - 'Apocalypse'. Unfortunately, it's only currently available on the British DVD system.
I was wondering if they may be becoming a spent force, but far from it. The movie is brilliant and they've made the most of their increased budget without getting self-indulgent. There's actually very little shot in Royston Vasey (It was actually filmed in Ireland). So many British comedy shows that transfer to the big screen look like just that - as if the producers are still making a TV programme. 'Apocalypse' is a real movie, on a large scale with good special affects.
The premise (realised within the first few minutes, so I'm not ruining anything), is very funny and well-sustained. The Royston Vasey LOG characters realise that their creators, are abandoning them and have got tired of them. So they come into the real world to get their revenge. All the characters are represented but it mainly surrounds Herr Lipp, the butcher and Geoff.
As an added bonus you get LOG playing new characters in a historical costume drama spoof, which gets worked into the plot. This is very funny by itself and features a wonderful cameo by David Warner. I'm constantly amazed by the range of characters these guys play.
The usual LOG bad taste rules. There's a very splendid little red devil in it too.
We loved it! Hopefully it will be out in North America soon.
