I might have known my * bible belt* state would approve a BAN on gay weddings , I voted against it but knew before voting it was a lost cause .
We voted on 8 amendments today and the line to vote went around the corner in even our little town.
my WIFE and I took 40 valueble minutes to get into the booth to cast our vote ..just got in about 2 hours ago .

From JohnA's article...
"Texans know that marriage is between a man and a woman, and children deserve both a mom and a dad. They don't need a Ph.D. or a degree in anything else to teach them that," said Kelly Shackelford, a leader Texans For Marriage, which favored the ban.
So when is divorce going to be made illegal in Tejas?
/what about the lucky kids with two daddies?
//stepdaddy is one you dirty minded bunch
I have a question. What in the hell is wrong with Kansas? Apparently they think evolution leads to gay marriage or something. Seriously, if you cannot get to grips with the scientific methods you shouldn't be setting academic policy.
Congratulations high school kids of Kansas - you aren't going to be getting in to college to take science any time soon.
Kansas now reminds me of that quote from Blackadder II
"It is said that the civilized man seeks out good and intelligent company, so that by learned discourse, he may rise above the savage, and be closer to God. Personally, however, I like to start the day with a total dickhead to remind me that I'm best."
I like the election vote in Dover, PA where the whole school board were voted out yesterday because they made it a policy to teach intelligent design.

Nice. The people have spoken I suppose.
The Noodly-Appendaged one should get good coverage in Kansas now though.
I've been telling ya..its that weird strip in the middle, they are all nucking futs. I have never met such a bunch of freaks in all my life..they're just strange and not in a good way.
I think the definitive proof that their is intelligent life in the universe is that they have seen middle America and decided NOT to contact us.
I swear that part of the country resembles a lab experiment gone wrong.
I'm going to be devil's advocate for a moment, bear with me, it's not easy.
I was an assistant to a very good structural engineer who was also a fundamentalist preacher. He never bothered me, although he knew I was not religious, but he did volunteer advice to some of the younger people. He didn't try to recruit them. When we were away at a site for meetings for a couple of days, I asked him about it. His point was that if you saw someone riding a motorcycle at high speed towards a cliff, you would warn them, he saw the moral equivalent was leading them to hell, a very real place for him, so he warned them.
The wierd thing here for me, is that in matters of engineering, and the politics that goes with building a nuclear power plant, he was perfectly rational. He believed that his belief in God, and the rest of it, was completely rational.
I think that some of these Creationalist/Intelligent Design people know that these don't fit with science, but they desparately want the youth to be exposed to the information on their belief.
The score in the science verse religon battle is about the same as lions verses christians. You have to tip your hat to these people, they never quit.
Last year, the Pennsylvania legislature passed a bill in the early hours of the morning, to raise the pay of themselves, the judges, and administration. The leaders brought it out on the floor and had a vote on it with no previous discussion, even with the legislators themselves.
Pennsylvania law does not allow legislators to get pay increases until after an election, following the change of law. They decided to take them right away as "unvouchered expenses" even though the PA constitution forbids this. The PA supreme court found it was ok despite the law, of course, they were getting theirs. It came to light that the chief justice collaborated in designing the law; also not permitted.
The electorate got mad, so much so that the whole raise was rescinded. None of the legislators was up for election, but two supreme court judges were up for retention. We vote to retain or not retain. One of them was voted off the island, the other hung on by the skin of her teeth. And this is in PA no less !
I hope this anger keeps up for a year so we can kick out some legislators and Senator Sanctimonious.
It was good to see the terminator get kicked in the teeth in CA.
Yesterday was a good day for giving political kickings but as you say, if the anger shown yesterday extends through to next year, then it could turn out to be quite a massacre.
A year however is a very long time in the politics of any nation but given the 30 second attention span that is prevalent, it will take a lot more sound bites of corruption and general ineptitude to keep the voting public concerned enough to take part and vote.
I think that some of these Creationalist/Intelligent Design people know that these don't fit with science, but they desparately want the youth to be exposed to the information on their belief.
But the thing is that if you believe in evolution, it doesn't discount your belief in God or that you're a Christian. It just means that you might not believe in the literal interpretation of Genesis. To use your analogy, just because you think evolution is correct, it doesn't necessary mean that you're headed of the cliff....
You know, its always the same thing with these idiots - if you don't believe in Genesis, don't hate gay people or don't think that the statehouse should have a nativity scene on the front lawn then you con't possibly be a Christian...
The Noodly-Appendaged one should get good coverage in Kansas now though.
Speaking of our Pastafarian friend, did you know that the guy who came up with it has been given an $80,000 advance by Villard Publishing to write the book on it?

“I’ll be really disappointed if it doesn’t spawn a cult.”
You and me both mate.
Well truth is stranger than fiction -Kwame was re-elected! I guess he must've partied with more than half of Detroit for them to think it's an OK way to spend the taxes..... shock
