I tell you what you have to admire a team like Wigan that is sitting so high up in the Premiership.
A team of 30 somethings and hard working younger lads have really proved hard work has its rewards.
I take my hat off to 'em and I would be chuffed to see them win the league.
That'd be grand. They were a very competent side last year and I was pleased for them when they went up. We beat them once last year but it was a mere blip for them and us for that matter.
I think all promoted teams have the ability to do well straight off the bat but the confidence has to be kept up. If it does fail them, they may find they start to plummett but I certainly hope the opposite works out for them.
Good luck to them.
I love that them and the Charltons of the world can still compete with the big boys
It was so long ago since everyone was saying that the smaller teams cannot compete anymore with bigger teams with the dosh. I do agree time will tell though!
Charlton had a great start but they look like theyre stuttering a bit. Bolton remind me more of Wimbledon than Charlton but have a higher budget team!! and their budget's going to get higher now that theyre playing in europe!! wink
I thought that Wigan were going to find it really tough in the Premiership. They sold their top scorer (Ellington) to West Brom and lost to Chelsea and Charlton at first, and theyve responded really well and are only six points adrift of Chelsea. Theyve got some tough fixtures ahead of them but with in-form players like Chimbonda and Roberts playing well theyve got a good chance of staying up this season, and a final thought about the three managers Jewell, Allardyce and Curbishley, who for me at least have been doing a pretty good job for a while now.
I'm glad Bolton are doing well after the crap Sam Allardyce had to put up with from the media earlier this season. He's done very well for that team.
As for Wigan - reminds me more of Norwich from 10 years ago. Chimbonda would be Jeremy Goss.

So come January Man Utd and co will swoop in for a few players!!
Is Mike Phelan still playing? -)
I met Big Sam when he was the manager at Notts. A nice bloke and straight talking Northerner.
And your right you shouldn't forget the achievements of Bolton either! With such a small budget they have worked miracles too.
Reminds me of my Ipswich team a couple of years back, fresh off a promotion and all playing for each other (Some of the big clubs could do with some of that). We finished fifth that season and went on to Europe next season beating Inter at home, quite the ride considering we finished third from bottom with 36pts that year cry
Good luck to them says me and I think they got lucky in the signings as the "bigger names" snubbed them and could have disrupted some of that Wimbledon attude around the club, but so far so good.
Is Mike Phelan still playing? :-)
Phelan's playing the coaching game now
He was the first team coach at Man Utd.
