Seeing as it seemed so many people were not doing anything at all for Halloween, I was wondering if you do anything for Guy Fawkes. Like making an effigy in the street and burning it in defense of freedom. Americans can understand that sort of thing surely?
From what I've seen, they think its some kind of voodoo witchcraft type thing. roll
No don't normally do anything but seeing as it falls on a Saturday and I have a pile of brush to burn anyway I may make it into an event this year.
When is it?? Being the American in the equation, I'm out of touch. oops
If I made a guy with a George Bush mask on it, will I get arrested and tried for treason?
Found an interesting article from a US perspective below;

Indeed. I love fireworks and all the traditions of bonfire night, but the burning the guy bit does sit uneasily.

I like the tates baked in the fire. The guy being burnt doesn't bother me. The RC versus Prod battle continues and until it stops the effigy will be burnt.
Oh , and I like sparklers too. lol
Remember, remember the fifth of November
The gunpowder treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, twas his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By God's mercy he was catched
With a dark lantern and lighted match.
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King.
Actually, I've taken to explaining that Guy Fawkes was the 'Bin Laden' terrorist of his day and they seem much more understanding of burning him at the stake.... shock

Burning in the chair was a more accurate depiction of the bonfires round my way.
