Most Americans that I know, cut up a few mouthfuls and then use the fork until they need to cut more. :shock:
When I first came here I worked with an American architect who ate "British style" (he did this naturally, it wasn't learned) which disgusted his mother. He had to get an opinion from Emily Post, that both ways are acceptable.
