I use Lycos form my email. I have my settings at max for stopping bilge coming in. In my inbox this morning I got the following emails from people I don't know and didn't ask for.

Griffith Medical - Appointment Cancelled - Click on the dll file to view your xray pdf now!

Townhall - Atop AARP's Liberal Monopoly

Chuck Huu g - Get 3 Extra Inches

Randolph Steigmeir - Great Property In Your Area

Grunch - Anderson Cooper and Shephard Smith Outed!!!

Wakeupwalmart - Stop Walmart's Moral Corruption

AirAmerica Franken Show - Why Did Frum Retract Miers Statement?

I didn't sign up for any of these. I frequent some of their sites - er, not the bigger willy one though. What I want to know is do these spam mails actually persude anyone? Do you ever click on a pop up because it's interesting? If they are illegal why aren't the people who do them bloody weel stopping?
Perhaps because the laws are not enforced. Many of these are relayed through foreign addresses.
One of the big spam kings got a serious kicking at the hands of AOL.

Last time I heard, he had skipped the country and his big house was sold, with AOL pocketing the proceeds. His collection of cars were raffled off in an AOL draw.

All in all, a quite satisfying way to deal with pond scum.

Actually, I'd tend to boycott companies that use pop ups.

Same with crappy commercials...

Spam is a fact of life... twenty years ago everyone got tons of crap in the real mail - these days it's more e-crap. The day I look at an email from someone called Ha rry OCoulton and think "you know what, maybe I do need three extra inches, even strange people on the web are calling me titchy" is the day I give you permission to lobotomise me with a steak knife and feed me mashed banana the rest of my life.

Never click on pop-ups either... especially the ones that say "Win a PS3" - which hasn't even got a release date yet. I think it's a test, if you're dumb enough to click on one of those, your internet license is taken away.
I hate spam as well. If you need a spam free email account let me know.

Best advice as we all know is to not fill in forms and crap like that. Best to have a junk address or something for those.
I get lots of emails any name i dont recognise i delete any email advertizing a product you didnt ask for and dont want is usually overpriced and crap anyway .

same with the regular mail been getting latley a lot of OFFERS for life/health etc insurance with no madical wxam looking at the rates they are about 6 times what i have no wonder they dont ask for a medical if you are stupid enought to fall for the scam they wil take your money before you finish writing the check .

credit cards with out a aplication are the same scam they take anybody foolish enought to go for it and issue a card with a 22% interest and other fees .

Top rated banks with a decent interest rate are perticuler who they take and have a in depth aplication package .

I have 3 cards at less than 4 %
No spam at our main account (and it's a hotmail one).
I get some spam at others which I use as spam accounts, but nothing like that -maybe 2 a week at my yahoo one, one or two a month at my other hotmail one. Y'all must be posting your addresses in the wrong places.

Do you report these as spam when you get them?
Somebody somewhere once told me if you actually open a spam mail it shows whoever sent it that your account is live, and they will bombard you. I have a feeling something similar happens if you unsubscribe to some of these - it just seems to be an indication for them to hit you harder.
The best way to report spam to send a report to spamcop. It doesn't cost anything to report spam to them and they basically forward reports to the hosts where the spam comes from.

The spam list they provide is used by many web hosts and this is the most effective way of preventing spam by cutting it off at the source.

Truth is though is most spammers forge the sending information anyway unless they are really stupid. Easiest way to deal with spam is to buy something like Spam Inspector which not only reports the spammer to the web host but also to the ISP!

Other than that just don't fill in web forms and have a decent browser that does not share your information with the world.
Like BungleI just set my email to junk everything if it doesn't come from one of my contacts, I then just go and delete them everyday. I should be more pro-active about reporting them I know, but I am just too tired.
I have done that before too where you select to receive only mail from people you know. But I lost a lot of email from people I totally forgot about adding to my list!

Yep, spam is a fact of life sadly.
