Anyone ever had food Confiscated when entering the U.S or mailing stuff to the U.S?
And if so what was it? and what happened?
Has anyone ever brought something over that is banned but didn't realise untill later? oops
Also whats the rules if you just bring in like a small tin of sausages for your own personal use? is that OK?
I also heard that OXO Cubes and Pork Scratchings were banned too? anyone know anything about that?
no, never attempted to bring stuff in. Mind I did have trouble a few years back going from Los Gatos to San Jose with fruit. Med fly infestation. Borders set up. So it's not just coming into the country, it's throughout different parts of some states.
Hope that helps. Eat the local food. Always works.
Hey, I have brought in lots of tea bags and chocolate over the last few years with no problems. I think the problems might arise if you bring in food that is not in the manufacturers original packaging. My mum used to send me chocolate in the mail alot too until they changed the rules. Now you have to get prior approval from like the FDA now to mail food into the US or customs will send it back, even if it is only for your own use. I have done this once and it was a pain in the ass but well worth the chocolate, but now whenever I go home I make sure that I bring enough chocolate and tea back with me to tide me over till next time I am home, much less hastle. I think the web site for the FDA is
http://www.access.fda.gov and you can do all the forms over the internet if you want to get food mailed in. Good Luck!
So you can bring in whatever food you want so long as its for your own use?

Depends where you're entering. In California, no fruit, meat, cheese, fish, plants, seeds, roots of plants etc. We're dead fussy here.
Mediterranean fruit fly regards
came in through Newark once, what a friggin joke that place is!
Had 2lb of sausages and 3 packs of smoky back!
Picked up the bags after they went through the food peoples scanner they did'nt say a thing!
I've never had any bother before either. But yes it is supposed to be not allowed.
Trust me, no one, but no one ever got a wiff of that bacon ,lol except me !

So, lets talk this one through.
We pack our bacon and sausages in our bag, take to the airport 3 hours ahead of flight time. We take a 7hr transatlantic crossing and then faff around in queues for immigration, customs etc for another hour. We drive home, lets say another 1 hour.
So...a tidy 12 hours later.....exactly how whiffy was your bacon and sausages upon arrival?

I bet you felt really pleased with yourself huh?
The reason these things are in place are not because they want to stop a rasher of bacon...Kinda selfish.
Try getting anything into Oz, they have X ray machines that actually "sniff" bags...
Andrew
If you read "Travels with Charley" by Steinbeck. They drive into Canada with some Florida oranges in the camper, travel around a bit and then come back into the USA but isn't allowed to bring the oranges back in.
He pulls a smart trick getting Charley across a border too, but I don't remember if they were leaving or returning when he did it.

Not at all with the freezer bags, do people still get there three hours early? sheesh, I though that was done a dusted, lol.
Nope arrived to the frezer still frozen, just made me laugh that the fruit and meat people scanned the bags looking only for produce and just did'nt see it! Of course the guy was busy talking to his bit of fluff on his mobile at the time.
I feel so much safer now when I fly from here!

In America they actually have scaners that scan specifically for Fruit and Meat every time you enter America? Are you serious?
