Why is it wrong to eat stinky food and then be amongst people? Shouldn't we all be used to smelly foods by now? In my experience it's the really stinky food that is the best - so why do we care so much?

I bring this up because my wife wanted to eat some left over Gobi Aloo in work but didn't because it would smell. She knew someone would be bothered because there's a Chinese woman there who reheats fish in the microwave and people complain that it smells. So my wife didn't eat till I brought her vegetable soup at 5. I, on the other hand, had been stuffing my face with foot cheese all day - the really gooey stuff that smells truly horrendous yet beautiful at the same time. I only ate it cuz I was at work by myself - if someone else was there I'd never have taken it in.

So what's the big deal? Thousands of years of eating and we have this hang up about foods like cheese, curry, garlic, etc - why?
I've microwaved fish at work - salmon, halibut and many others and it does tend to stink the place out.

Then again, people pop popcorn at all hours of the day and I have to put up with that, being next door to a breakroom so fairs fair!

Usually, I get positive comments on the lovely smell of Indian or Thai food that I bring from home to eat for lunch.
Bit like trying not to make any noise whilst taking a crap in a public toilet isn't it...only that's smellier!
I can't stand the smell of what some people will microwave at work. And burnt cheese popcorn is the worst. We had the fire dept come out because someone burnt it and set our smoke alarms off.

What the hell is foot cheese? Is that something American?

Oh, and as for public toilets, creep off to the most disused and disguised toilet in the building when at work. I tend to use the ones around the administration area on nightshift.

I must admit, I select non stinky food to take to work with me.
I don't care, I'll reheat whatever I want to eat. If people don't like the smell, that's not my problem. As long as it's not a health risk then its fair. I don't think its unreasonable to feel ok about eating whatever you want to eat on your break.
lol Foot chees eis just cheese that stinks so much it smells like very bad feet.

Now I know Americans have head cheese so I should have been more specific.
take a look at stinking bishop, here

"They are generally full-flavoured with lively aromas. Stinking Bishop is no exception and uses perry as its wash. It has a sticky yellow-orange rind and smells of old socks. The paste is soft and creamy, the flavour is delicious and, although full and distinctive, it is not quite as pungent as the odour may imply!"
That's another thing I miss the French markets that would come to Bristol and Worthing, all the smelly cheeses that can sometimes knock you over, but damn tasty ) mrgreen
