Everything British I think has become a treat to me, I get excited when I find Heinz Baked Beans in the stores even though they see fit to charge $1.59 a can!!!! Choccy hobnobs, fruit and nut, PG Tips, Marmite I could go on all day. Damn I miss home cry
Do you have family come over, or friends? If not, can they send you a food parcel. when we first arrived in the states are shopping list for home used to be huge. Mum and dad used to need another suitcase just for all the stuff we asked for! As time has gone on, what we ask for changes - I don't crave somethings as much as I used to. Now, included in this extra suitcase will be things that are now wearing out - duvet covers, hot water bottles - along with the viscount, blackjacks, marmite (large), custard powder, paxo, HP (catering size to fill up already owned bottles), bisto, rice pudding, mushy peas, bon bons, victory v's.

OK, the list is still endless lol

Christmas is coming up - ask your family to send parcels of food instead of other gifts. )
I wasn't really missing anything too much until last week when I had a massive craving for black pudding. I can almost smell it. No one that I've asked knows of an equivilant here. Any ideas?

I don't think its allowed to bring stuff like that in to the US from England.

Most mexican butchers do a blood pudding. Same difference but not as much fat. Depends how fussy you are.

Excellent. Thanks for the tip.

You need to ask for morcilla. That's pretty much black pudding.
I am finding more and more things I cna get over here. I can now find tons of stuff over here in the U.S. someplace, like custard powder, digestives, Alpen, my blue cheese, Weetabix, sesame snaps, Ready Brek, Cadbury chocolate.

My list is growing - but I'mdoing pretty well finding what I need.

I can find alot of good things at the specialty store but you have to pay specialty store prices hence why it becomes such a treat. As for family stocking me they do! Whenever my Mum visits there is a suitcase packed with goodies, like marshmellows, they are awful almost stale tasting here. Wine Gums, Extra Strong mints, squash, custard creams!!!

I just think it's funny that you can get used to having the simplist of things and then you find them in a store and you do back flips with excitement, well at least I get excited wink
HBB are the only things I buy on a regular basis at import prices as by adding some slices of bread I can make 2 meals for me out of a $1.59 tin.

Did this group ever do a thread about what American-based foods you would miss if you left for home?
Hmmm what would I miss from here..... I think in this case it wouldn't be food it would be the shopping malls grin

yes.

There isn't anything I couldn't do without after 16 yrs.
If I'm near a Brit store I will buy few packs of Irish back bacon, and some Bisto gravy granules as well as picking up a variety of sweets.
I can live quite happily without these things but are a treat when I do get them.
I buy Carrs water biscuits from Big Lots when they have them (I clear the shelves when they do ), I take out a second mortgage and buy Stilton cheese from BJs and I buy 50 cans of baked beans every year from that nice little country over the border. mrgreen
I have to say, when I come to the US, I usually miss having Bisto around.

My youngest may miss Marmite, but there is no HUGE protest... thank goodness, he only gets it at Creche, and neither his father nor I can stand it.
