Following on from Britarm's thread about 'The Station Agent', I was wondering if fellow british chums had seen any movies recently that they could recommend? Either ones in the cinema now or rentals.
Ta.
Try Flightplan w/ Jodie Foster. IMO that's a great movie!
Saw History of Violence last week. Excellent movie, and no special effects.
Went with the missus last weekend to see Just Like Heaven....I think that's it's name anyway. A bit of a chick flick but one of the best I've seen. Really good story.
We just watched a movie called Schultze gets the blues, its about a salt miner/Polka accordionist who gets laid-off and then, after a couple of months pottering around, discovers Zydeco music on the radio, comes to america and ends up on a boat puttering around the bayous of LA looking for music. Totally cool film, a bit like Leningrad cowboys go america, but with a German.
I love how i can walk into a Blockbuster in this country and rent stuff thats been out of print, banned or deleted in the UK for decades..makes me happy anyway razz
We really enjoyed Serenity, but we were big fans of the Firefly TV series. Not sure how people who hadn't seen the series would react. Western meets SciFi. It's different at least.
Caught up on some old movies, through Netflix, that were missed first time around.

We enjoyed "The Joy Luck Club" and earlier this week, I liked "Big Trouble" which was a very fast paced (over in about 80 minutes!) caper movie - reminded me of a Guy Ritchie movie and had an interesting cast too. Wasn't brilliant but a lot of fun.

I f you like Will Smith *HITCH * comedy .

For fans of John Travolta and James woods * GENERALS DAUGHTER *Murder drama
Anyone know whether that Exorcism of Emily Rose film is any good? Looks alright in the previews. Might go and see it tomorrow.

I've heard and read countless pannings of Flightplan. Everyone's said it was rubbish so I'm giving that one a miss.

My favourite film of this year is still Kung Fu Hustle. Good simple story, excellent cinematography, funny, great stunt work. Brilliant.

Gots to agree. Have you seen "Shaoilin Soccer"? It's fron Stephen Chow too.

Also just watched "Steamboy", it's a bizarre 19th-Century alternate universe good-against-evil story from the bloke who made "Akira", the "Kill Bill" double bill and "Layer Cake" which was kind of disappointing.

I watched Crash the other day and thought it was excellent.
Very thought provoking. Great screenplay(should win an oscar for this) well acted.
The best bit of acting I've seen from Sandra Bullock.
Handles the issue of race and all our pre conceptions about it superbly.
9/10
A good war movie that you probably missed when it came out is a German film called "Stalingrad", made in about 1993 which I got from Netflix at the weekend. I think the same production team that made "Das Boot" (The Boat) did this and it shows.

Few films depict the war from the German side and an added bonus was the fact that you could choose to watch in German, with English subtitles or rough it with English dubbing.

We were looking out for historical inaccuracies but did not notice many. The weapons looked right, as did the uniforms and it was very impressive. The only thing that was noticably absent was the swastika which I could not pick out at all in the entire movie - it looked to have been fuzzed on the uniforms or left out altogether which is the one bad thing about a German-made movie as their laws prohibit the display of this historic emblem. I think it is about time to drop this law and get back to being historically accurate again but it did not really detract from the film too much.

I'll give Crash a good rating too for all the above reasons.

I saw Sahara on the plane recently and War of the Worlds - they're both pretty good for a blockbuster/action movie thingy.

We also saw the Corpse Bride a few weeks ago at the flicks - pretty good.

Anyone seen the 'Wallace and Gromit' movie yet?
