OK,

I just got back from visiting my family in Scotland and I've discovered that I really like Alpen muesli cereal. Thing is - as I'm sure lots have already discovered - it's nigh to impossible to get it in the States. Here in OK we only have a choice of a handful of grocery stores - Wal-Mart, Albertson's, and the occasional useless Homeland. None of them sell anything out of the ordinary - let alone anything British.

Does anybody feel any cereals over here in the U.S. are comparable to Alpen??? I'm NOT looking for an exact match - because I know that'll never happen. I was just wondering - if there's any Alpen fans out there - whether you had learned to love another type of cereal in place of.

KR
Nope ,hubby has been looking for years
We can get Alpen here in a couple of stores. You might want to look around a bit.

Were in CA, they like to make their own with nuts and crunchy stuff that they call granola

Yeah but I said that here in OK we're really limited to grocery stores. All we have are Wal-Mart, Albertson's and "Homeland" LOL. Other than that - if I want a different grocery store/more upmarket one - I have to wait until we go down to Dallas visiting family.

What is that Muselix stuff??? Is it any good???

I get a muesli that I like better than Alpen. It's by Bob's Red Mill. It is organic. and therefore not cheap.

I get it at Genuardis which is a subsidiary of Safeway,in the organic section, but you can get it mail order here:
http://www.bobsredmill.com/

Or you can get it at Amazon, Amazon knows me so I had a difficulty in getting shipping cost without actually buying there.

I use a quarter cup and put the milk on it before I go to bed, so the grains have expanded before I eat them. I often add some plain yoghurt to it.

Another brand is Familia and I've seen that in most supermarkets, in the regular cereal aisle. It is also availabel from Amazon. It is less costly than Bob's and may be closer in taste to Alpen. The original is sweetened but they have a "no sugar added" type.
Karen...Kroger sells Alpen so when you are in Dallas you could stock up!

MMM....Kroger is the same as Ralphs, I think. Don't you have Ralphs in CA?

I thought it no different to the regular run of cereals, I didn'y consider it to be muesli.

Thanks :!:

I actually DO know the Bob's Red Mill line of stuff - our local Albertson's stocks it!!!! I know this because they're the only ones who produce oats from which it is possible to make some decent porridge! I will look them out again when I am there today!!!!!!

Thanks.  We went there once or twice.  Everything seemed VERY inflated in price.  Last I'd heard - they'd shut their doors and the shop for good. :???:

Our hometown Norman here has something called the "International Pantry" - which I need to look in again as I can't remember what they stock and what they don't.  Worth a try - but at least I know Kroger's can help me!!!!  Sheesh what I woulnd't give for a Kroger's in Oklahoma.......LMAO.

Kroger sells Alpen?? Which branch do you shop at, cel? My local branch doesn't have it. I'd be willing to venture the traffic on 635 to find some. lol

Our local KMart sells Alpen (and Weetabix) but has only just started selling it since their revamped look after the merger with Sears. You could try there too.
