Both boys and girls took 'home economics' and woodwork in our comprehensive school when I was at school.

Me too. The cooking lessons were awful, though, because my mum always insisted on sending in alternatives to the required ingredient. I always had brown flour instead of white (which rarely works in a white flour recipe ime), butter instead of margarine (not good on a winter morning), cheddar instead of mozarella etc.... plus I already knew the basics so was bored shitless.

Our Home Ec classes also included ironing and laundry ...like any child from a "broken home" isn't already doing these ;)

yay! We finally found a good thing about divorce -the kids learn how to look after themselves (and their parents) at a young age.

I had to do Home Economics too. It wasnt any Cordon Bleu stuff or anything like that!! grin we did cauliflower cheese and apple crumble and shepherds pie (not made with real shepherds I might add wink )
We were made to do sewing ( I made my dad a dodgy toolbelt smile ) and we did car maintenance (which was completely useless) woodwork, metalwork,TD and filling out forms (rent rebate and dole forms) To be quite honest the cookery stuff was far more interesting than some of the other crap we did.
