This story is a couple of days old but I thought I'd still post it.
Des Lynam is going to be the new host of Countdown. I think he's going to fit in at Countdown really well with his laid back style and his little quips. The only thing is will he survive without his stats man? wink

So do you think the guests will change too? Richard always invited people on like Giles Brandreth and Richard Digance. I don't see those as the types Des would feel most comfortable with.
I can just see it now, Gary Lineker or Vinny Jones in dictionary corner.....
"You could have had bollocks for eight......." wink

What, no Giles Brandreth?

Did the guests have a computer? I always wondered how they could find 9 letter words that the World Countdown champion couldn't find and that no-one had ever heard of.

"Oh yeah, you could have had 'Pwognngch' - its the Welsh biological term for 'Penacillin'...."

I used to wonder the same thing too Adeshell.... ?

But then I realised that Richard Stilgoe Ned Sherrin, and The Great Suprendo are wordsmiths... wink

Not only that, how is he going to get on with Carol Voderman ( lovely lady by the way, and a milf ) Remember the story of Des picking up a hooker that turned out to be a guy, a while back? That was hilarious, ala Eddie Murphy

One of the producers (Mark Nyman, a former champion) was also a top world-ranked Scrabble player and very quick at producing the best anagram. He sometimes sat in Dictionary Corner. If you want an idea of how fast the Scrabble guys can anagram a rack of letters and how hard they train, read "Word Freak" by Stefan Fatsis. It also explains how/why Hasbro are so obsessively jealous with their copyright that online Scrabble games are seriously hard to find. (

This is a good Countdown Trivia site http//www.ukgameshows.com/index.php/Countdown
I think Des'll do just fine, by the way. Richard wasn't exactly a whiz with the words and numbers.
