As of 2morrow, Canada will have a new governor general. She is originally from Haiti, she came here in the 60s, so in otherwords, she is a political refugee, who has since become a Canadian.

I can't believe some of the nonsense am reading on some forums, people going on about how she comes from the land of voodoo. What the hell has that got to do with her carrying out her roles? She is an award winning jornalist, and an accomplished TV presenter.

She even gave up her French citizenship ( she married a french guy ) a few days ago, because some people think that might hinder her job roll I think she is going to do a wonderful job, better than the previous one, that spent a lot of money on foreign trips.

Maybe they think she used some of that voodoo to get her new job! wink
Voodoo is a much-maligned religion that has suffered terribly thanks to the propoganda of the Catholic Church. Ironic really, when many of the Voodoo saints are taken from the Catholicism that was forced upon the West African slaves brought to Hispaniola and other West Indies islands.

I don't practise Voodoo myself but we are quite close to one of the famous Houngans of Haiti and he was a fascinating man to meet and talk to. He too is dual nationality French/Haitian, as this lady was until she renounced her French citizenship.

On the surface, this sounds like a good appointment and she's made a concilliatory gesture that should placate the ignorants.

So it's just the Catholic church then, Anglican, Baptist, seventh day and Islam all condone it then? :roll:

I think you'll find (when you discover the joy of reading) that Haiti's history is tinged with a lot of bloodshed, a religion that was almost wiped out by those in power who happened to be French-Catholic - none of the religions you mentioned in your uninformed, earlier post - and a nation that is still shunned by the world because it was the only slave nation that stood up destroyed those oppressing it.

Smilies are good but try not use them out of context or you'll look even more of an idiot than usual.

I>>>>>t takes one to know one I guess.....you are coming across as a nincompoop, and it's amazing how you seem to relish in it. When I discover the joy of reading? I guess you know what have read and what I haven't, by looking into your rose tinted glasses or oracle in this case.

>>>>>>Am done with you on this, I see you tend to make a habit of insulting people, and jumping on every post of mine, am glad I give you something to get off on, this might be the only action you get, who knows and who cares really?

>>>>Now go run around that acreage of yours eh

Perhaps we could get back to the topic?
Everyone would like that
Not everyone likes a hijacked thread.
I'm not sure Pilgrim knows how to type quickly
Since he plays combat games all the time.

I'm so glad we're all grown up here. I dread to think what it would be like if we resorted to playground levels.

/Ok who's on Pilgrim's team and who's on Glaswegian's? Last one to the climbing frame is on, first one out has to call Nigel a poopy-head.

//:roll:

///as you were, soldiers.....

Sorry...I was busy playing kiss chase.
And (almost) back on topic, do you have a counterargument to Pilgrim, Glaswegian, or just insults? I know that Pilgrim is somewhat of an expert on American History and his point rings true with what I learned in school -that voodoo has deep ties with Catholisism and that most commonly held views about the bloodthirsty and evil nature of voodoo can be traced back to Catholic propaganda. The official viewpoint of other religions is not implied at all by the argument that voodoo got a rough deal fromthe Catholic Church. You have a computers background, you should know that not all logical relationships are a two-way street. What makes you so quick to defend the role of the Catholic church? Are you Catholic?

...you got away again, huh? :lol:

I know! 100% success rate so far!! grin

....and back to the thread.

Clicky for Santeria is quite good at teaching the differences between this and the actual practice of Yoruban Vodun. Seems about about bloodthirsty as some parts as Genuine Neo Pagan Earth Worshipping Nonsense would be honest about if we could get away with human sacrifice.

/everyone else in Western Europe got the shaft from the Catholics.
//ps who cares about Canada eh? She's probably harmless.
