hey,
Ive just purchased a 1994 Ford Thunderbird here in the States but he has a little bit of rust on the side and was just wondering if anyone had any helpful tips to get me started on removing it!
Any suggestions would be great!
thanks
carl
I have no idea if it works on rusty cars, but if you soak a dirty cent overnight in Coca Cola it comes out sparkling clean!

/Might be very interesting to see what it does to our insides, eh!

Do you want to get a good finish or just stop the rust?

Well I was hoping to get a good finish to it and to prevent any further rust in the future!

Isn't this the holy grail of car owners worldwide? If we managed to prevent rust, we'd never buy new cars and the car makers would go bust.
First thing would be to sand it down as best you can then get a rust stopper from the car parts store.
They are often rust stopper and primer in one.
Then I would suggest you paint over ther spot.
I'm a little surprised at rust on a '94. You will have to sand it clean, wipe it very clean with a tack cloth and spray on the primer to cover the sanded area and just a little more immediately. If the areas are small, you may need to cut a small hole in a piece of cardboard and spray through the hole while holding the board about halfway to the car. you do want the edges feathered. then rub with wet and dry emery cloth (or whatever they use now, it changes periodically, then goes back to emery cloth) according to the instructions on the cans. You should be able to get the paints from pep boys or such.
If you want to do it online, paintscratch.com are wonderful for touch-up paint. They take your VIN number to make sure they give you the right colour.

Beware, when you start sanding unless it's done by a profesional you'll end up with more rust than when you started. ( been there done that)
good luck. Feeny.
