So the UN declared the most violent country in the developed world today. Any ideas? According to the UN it's Scotland. lol Followed closely by Wales and England! Gold, silver and bronze to the UK!

http//www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1786945,00.html

"A UNITED Nations report has labelled Scotland the most violent country in the developed world, with people three times more likely to be assaulted than in America. England and Wales recorded the second highest number of violent assaults while Northern Ireland recorded the fewest."

It's funny, I wouldn't give a second thought to wandering about Glasgow, London, Cardiff, pretty-much-anywhere-in-the-UK at 3 in the morning. On the other hand you wouldn't catch me in the center of Buffalo past 3 in the afternoon for fear of being jumped. I lived in Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff in Wales - I wouldn't consider them dangerous. They have dodgy areas, some of which I've lived in, but most violent in the developed world? You have got to be joking?
What a load of carcas.....
Yep, I concur. Kaka indeed.
I'd have to agree on this one too.. what a load of b******s.
I think its a load of sh*t
I dunno. If it's based on reported crimes then it may not be that far off. I lived in a small village in Northumberland for a while and it was a pretty violent lifestyle. We had no police, people sorted out their own problems, sore losers went to the next town and reported the assault. Not that that makes it an accurate representation of the real danger to the average Joe on the street, but within the boundaries of available data, it's possible......

...and I certainly feel safer here than I did there.

second that monster.......at least i can park the motorbike outside and know its gonna be there in the morning.......unlike the uk.

at least the police turn up here.
I think the average UK town centre can be a pretty violent and unpleasant place on a Saturday night - and drink (or young people who can't handle it) is the major factor.

Regardless of where Scotland, Wales and England come in the rankings I much prefer being out late in the NY/Naples/Barcelona/etc.

I've was in Sao Paulo this year - which is in many ways a very dangerous city - but you could stroll about in the evening without seeing people throwing up/staggering about bleeding from fight wounds/having a blazing incoherent row with their drunk girlfriend/or shouting and swearing at passer-bys 'for a laugh'.

All of which happened the last time I was in Swansea on a Saturday night. I agree with the Doctor in the article - I'd like to see something done about it by the politicians. Surveys like this will increase the pressure.
