Hurricane Rita is heading straight for the coast of Texas and thats where we are ???

So, should we sit it out or hit the road (Hey Johna, got a spare room for us!!!) They have already started voluntary evacuation here and by tomorrow we have to make a decision.

I'm really not up to travelling too far right now but I also dont want to be stuck in a flooded house with nowhere to go either. Decisions, eh roll

Sorry, only you can decide that, but this site may help if you don't already have it:

Wow, when we lived in Savannah, GA, whenever there were voluntary evacuations, we were out of there. Plus the fact that you can actually find a hotel room if you need to before the mass of people leaves town too.

Take Care Cel!
If you decide to go. we have plenty of room.
go. Surely it is much better to leave now under your own steam and get stuck and have to leave in a hurry and maybe find it more difficult.

Take care both of you.
If you can go now that would be the sensible. You don't want to have to make a snap decision in the last couple of hours.
Plus you can take it easy getting where-ever and what you want and need.
Er... you really have to ask? shock

Always room here (bedroom and private bath ) .

I say go - you have nothing to lose but some time. Nothing would convince me to stay put during a hurricane. Take your most precious possessions. Everything else is just stuff.

I knew you wouldn't let a fellow Chelsea supporter down John

Firstly we cannot leave until Thursday at the earliest. Mick works for the City and they are only allowed to leave when everything is secure and everyone else is evacuated and their is no way I am leaving without him :???: It may seem that it is a straight foward decision to just leave but if you lived here (and Ginger and Morph will agree) and moved out everytime there was a possible storm you would be doing it 2 or 3 times a year.

So until we know what catagory it will be (2 or less and we stay) then we will make plans on Thursday. Mick has picked up all the outside furniture and plants, secured all the window screens and doors and we have all our important papers etc and a bag packed so we will be ready to leave if necessary.

Yes I do agree with you Cel. I would be doing just what you are doing right now. We have never evacuated during a hurricane, but then we weren't in a flood zone either. If I had lived in New Orleans I would have left for Katrina. I remember one time, can't remember which storm, and the schools closed down and everything. We had a lovely sunny day by the pool  I wish you the best whatever you decide  What a name for a storm hey  Some people just like to cause trouble

Cel - I feel for you on this one!

The talk we hear is it's going to be at least a cat 4. Heading straight for Texas, BUT the weatherman says there's a slight possibility it could turn northward due to some air currents pressing down your way, and could end up hitting New Orleans again.

I'd hang on til Thursday, have everything ready, then if it is a cat 4 get the heck out of there. We've always stuck it out at home with lots of supplies, but after seeing what Katrina did to Miss, and N.O. I'm not so sure I'd stay now.

And the bummer of this storm is, it's a hot tempered storm, I know I share something in common with it... razz twisted

Good luck Cel, and anyone else in it's way, I will be thinking of you all weekend.
cel

For me I would go, again if need a place to rest yea head let me know. Having to phone wifes parents and family, she has a load down at Edna and Port Larva (think thats how you spell it lol).

Good luck and don't forget the pets .
Whatever you decide, cel, (and anyone else unfortunate enough to be in the same predicament), my thoughts are with you. What an awful situation to find yourself in. sad
