love bananas. Popular Science has an article about how they are going extinct. Apparently in the early 1900's the main table variety of banana went extinct and was replaced by what we eat now. According to Popular Science this is happening again.

Don't worry, by the time it's gone they'll have genetically engineered fruit way better than bananas....of course I use the word "better" very loosely.
Didny know there where all that many types and sizes of bananas . still my favourite fruit and one of my best deserts is one i bought from england.. bananas and custard .
Bananas and custard is an incredible combination. The flavours compiment each other beautifully.

Correct birds custard and i make it rather thick and sometimes indulge in chocolate spinkles ..
Years ago an English friend was having dinner with us and my wife wanted to serve Birds with dessert. We were all sitting at the kitchen table and she gave me the can to open. She hadn't folded the paper and when I pulled the lid off, the powder exploded into my hair, on my face, down my shirt. Being a nice person, she grabbed her camera and took a picture. They both thought it hilarious that I wouldn't be eating the custard myself.
If they do re-engineer the banana, hopefully they will do a better job than was done with strawberries. My favorite fruit is now a big red lump of tasteless gue. They look good though.

I never thought of putting chocolate on the top - but yes, bananas and Bird's custard (with less sugar) is the very best. Pity my kids won't try it (
