So...anyone see or hear it? What did you think of it?

Firstly, I don't really think going all the way down to New Orleans to give it made much sense. Didn't really give the impression he's taking a break from personally picking up rubble to have an impromptu chat with the nation. And I also find it a tad insensitive to spend so much money and effort on theatrical lighting to illuminate the area he was standing in. And I read that someone was paid an awful lot to get the clock working in the background. And personally I wouldn't stand in front of a statue of Andrew Jackson after being slammed as a racist for the last 3 weeks. Still, it started off ok when he walked out and it took FOREVER for him to reach the microphone. He had his sleeves rolled up and no tie so you could see he was working hard. Speech itself was pretty good but he did fall over the words alot. And no President should ever give out a telephone number during an address - it seems very tacky. It seems very "call in the next 10 mintues and you'll also get a free bottle opener!" I think the name "Gulf Opportunity Zone" is woeful. Who comes up with this stuff? And the excuse for screwing up that it was "not a normal hurricane" was hilariously bad.

The words for the first 8 or so minutes were excellent. But they're 2 and a half weeks late. I was extremely surprised to see so many people interviewed afterwards positive about the speech. Don't understand that at all. My favorite conclusion so far has been the line "The clothes have no emperor." Still, the fact remains that unless something very unusual happens hen I think the 2006 elections could be quite painful.
Only saw it for the first 10 mins and it seemed out of place. Then I couldn't take anymore of the hard to remove smirk from his face. Much as he tries he just can't get rid of it.

I suspect most Americans are desperate to find some redeeming things about their leader, after all they voted him in again. However they are going to struggle when they hear that their illustrious leader feels he needs to ask permission to take a leak!

Jeez does he think he still at school.

I was only talking about this yesterday to my youngest daughter and wondering how students cope when they are in the outside world and don't need a hall pass to go to the loo.
I am insulted that he still managed to fanagle terrorism and sept 11th into a speech about a natural disaster.
I'll catch up with it later.

To be honest, I don't want to add to the viewing figures when they go out live. There is so much fanfare and pomp, as if God himself might be about to share some pearls of wisdom.

The phrase "As if..." then springs to mind.
I saw a tv programme a couple of nights ago that showed some of Bush's classic speeches. It included the infamous "If you were a single mother with two children.." and "We have a saying in Texas, screw me once......(you can hear the cogs working as he's thinking)....erm...screw me twice.......(agonised silence)..well screw you".

Priceless.
..it all sounded like he was actually blaming god this time....
Looks as though his nephew got drunk after hearing his uncle's speech.

Least he got through it without asking if he can go poo-poo...

Yeah, he did stop short of vowing 'to get the people who did this...'. I guess he'd lose the Christian Conservative vote....

Apparently, it was because Ellen Degeneres is hosting the Emmys....
