Delicious....or...Disgusting...?
Anyone growing up in Britain surely must have eaten some kind of canned fish at one time or another. I was practically raised on canned salmon sandwiches. wink
As I was opening a can of wild caught pink salmon just this afternoon, all that yukky grey skin and those soft bones (dog loves e'm) I thought about how my friends here would think it was nothing less than disgusting, gross, etc. The smell is kind of off putting though, isn't it? But they would rather poke their eye out with a stick than eat anything like that. The only kind of fish they would ever consider eating is of course tuna.
I also eat sardines - you can buy them skinless and boneless now which I kinda like. I also like 'kippered herring snacks' - all of it a good source of the omega fats.
I mostly eat fresh fish here, and a lot of it! Love fish mrgreen I used to eat Pilchards when I lived in England. Now the only canned fish I eat is Kipper snacks and Tuna. Ooh and rollmops lol
I used to love pilchards in tomato sauce on toast, and tinned salmon was considered a real treat - otherwise it was just salmon spread and cucumber sandwiches.
I miss fresh smoked haddock and rainbow trout and definitely miss British Cod and plaice - it's all Scrod around here (and I'm not being rude - that's what it's called). They also have coley - my mum used to buy that for cat food - she didn't consider it good enough for people!
Just tuna, both sides of the Atlantic. Mostly I prefer fresh fish. Have just this second finished the battered cod beest made for dinner. Yum mrgreen (with chips, Heinz beans and battered mushrooms for those who feel the need to torture themselves....)
Back home I liked tinned salmon, tuna and sardines. I wasn't keen on fresh fish, except haddock (in the guise of a fish supper! )
When I lived in Florida I ate fresh fish at least 3 times a week - always grilled or baked, never fried. Fresh shrimp (blackened, hot off the grill), mahi-mahi, tilapia, salmon and haddock (when I could find it) were my favourites. I loved all the fresh seafood that was readily available and the abundance of excellent quality seafood restaurants. Here in Hicksville I can't find any (surprise, surprise  ) and I can only buy 'fresh frozen' fish. Although it's ok, it just doesn't taste the same as freshly caught.
Sardines on toast, mashed up and doused with malt vinegar - always called it horses doovers when we were kids (hors d'oeuvres). I still eat that even tho the sardines don't quite taste the same. My mum would do pilchards with a salad which I loved too. Canned salmon sandwiches in our house too, altho I tried it here and it just didn't taste right, even on brown bread.
I really miss plaice and British cod too. Flounder just doesn't do it for me and it's scrod here too. I live in one of the biggest fishing places in the USA, surrounded by seafood restaurants....can't stand the way they cook their food here.

I was a lover of tinned salmon John West's Red Salmon. I just hate the pink stuff they sell here. The other day i actually found a tin of red at my local supermarket. Guess what!... Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!! cry
I still eat sardines, King Oscar brand, I don't like the Morrocan ones that are skinned.
Also kipper snacks and red salmon. We always had slices of cucumber marinated in vinegar with the salmon.
I went off pilchards when I went on my first and last boy scout camping trip. The first evening, they boiled and mashed potatoes and then poured tins of pilchards in the potato and mashed some more. I reluctantly took a mouthful and it was as sickening as I thought it would be. What made it worse was that the senior scouts and scouters behaved as though it was the food of the gods

As a child I would fairly often ear tinned sardines on toast.....pretty nice actually although when I do it these days, it doesn't seem to taste near as good for some reason.
I eat sardines on toast but thats about the only tinned fish i eat my wife eats tuna for lunch sometimes .
do eat a lot of fresh fish here *at least twice a week * mainly salmon , shark , and halibut cant even stand the look of catfish which seems to be americas favourite .
Agreed on the catfish. When I first moved over my prospective in-laws felt it necessary for me to try this "delicacy". We went to one of those "all you can eat" places which had the "best catfish in the county".
I ate all I could of it and had the runs for the next couple of days!! Needless to say I never tried it again.

What are roll mops Morph ???
Sponges on sticks with special squeezy devices.
Much prefer them to string mops, but ours is virtually defunct now we've got the new floor.

Yes, filets wrapped around a sour pickle and cured in brine, delish.
