Anyone got any ideas on a British dish to pass? I have to take three this weekend to various events and I am sick of making curry ;o)

One event is a fish fry, the other two don't have a general theme.

Has to be vegetarian and made with readily available ingredients. I won't have the time or funds to shop Brit.

I won't be online for a couple of days, just post your ideas, links or recipes on here and I'll check up on the list Friday night or Saturday morning.
main course or dessert? If they can be dessert, try something like a trifle or banoffee pie? Both are easy and good and Americans like them. the quickest way with a banoffee is to boil a can of condensed milk (unopened) in a pan of boiling water for 3 hours, leave to cool and put on top of bananas which you slice and put in a Graham cracker pie base. top with whipped cream. )

if they can be a nibbly thing what about marmite and cheese pinwheels. They are just puff pastry spread with marmite and grated cheese, rolled and cut into wheels and baked.

Or you could make individual chesse and egg pies. You can buy the pastry rather than spend the time making it yourself. The bought stuff is pretty good for those quick times.

)
Anything, main, side or dessert.

And again, it must be made of readily available ingredients. Marmite is something I occasionally buy but is expensive and I don't always have it on hand. If I can't buy it from the corner store, I probably can't use it this weekend.
Make a trifle for dessert.
Veggie toad in the hole?? Or veggie shepherds pie made with boca ground beef. Those and veggie sausage rolls have proven to be a hit
weird that, that curry has become #1 british dish, what has happened to bangers and mash, sheperds pie, fish and chips, fry up?
By "vegetarian" I didn't mean "using vegetarian replacements for meat" either.

I guess I'll google some ideas.

Listen chuck, what is wrong with doing a trifle or banoffee pie. Both are vegetarian and neither are replacing meat. Neither are difficult and you can get all your ingredients readily. And what is wrong with a chesse and onion pie. Or cheese, onion and potato bake (mashed potato with grated cheese and chopped onion, baked in a hot oven).

And shepherd's pie - you don't have to include meat substitutes to make them. Just make it with all vegetables - carrots, onions, baked beans, zuchini, lentils.

And what about veggie curry - use lentils.

or just search google!

;)
Wasn't having a go at all the suggestions. I don't feel like making trifle and I have never heard of banoffee pie.

Yeah we could all search Google for all the questions we post on here, it would make the mods' job a lot easier. Let's do that!

Of all the things I had beaten into me as a kid (literally), saying "thanks" wasn't one of them. So it is still possible that I forget to say it.

Ta very much.
So what did you take and how were they received?
