Full Version: Katrina - work of a vengeful God

Taken from an article in the Toledo Blade. Happily the Blade didn't support any of these comments.

Steve Lefemine, Columbia Christians For Life - "God judged New Orleans for the sin of shedding innocent blood through abortion". Said after seeing the image of an 8 week old fetus in a satellite image of the hurricane; much like we used to see farmyard animals in clouds when we were children.

Muhammad Yousef Miaifi, Kuwaiti official - "The terrorist Katrina is One of the Soldiers of Allah".

Stan Goodenough, Journalist - "The implementation of His judgment on the nation most responsible for endangering the land and people of Israel".

Micheal Marcavage, Repent America - "The day (N.O) was flooded was the day that 125,000 homosexuals were going to be celebrating in the streets....We're calling it an act of God".

So there we have it, nothing to do with global thermals and meeting of pressure fronts, but God or Gods punishing us for our sins. All we have to do is stop abortion, help israelis to live and shoot who they want to, allow muslims to live under whichever crackpot dictator decides is boss at the time and eradicate homosexuality and there will be no more disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. Brilliant.

I sometimes wonder whether freedom of speech is such a good idea.
I like the idea that the people in New Orleans were somehow more godly and prayed harder than the people in Biloxi.
There is no judgement until judgement day. Tell the people in Columbia and the "Repent America" twonk to go read the Bible properly.

(Edited after I read the OP properly)
neutral According to the bible only god knows when the end will be. Man kind will only be along for the ride.

We have been on this "the end is near" for thousands of years. Lets hope it goes on for thousands of years to come.
2 Peter 3

Quote:
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue ° as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ° ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein ° dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever °. Amen.

Since Christ died for us, ascended and we received Holy Spirit there has never been a judgement by God. At least not by Yahweh, Jehovah, El Shaddai, call Him what you will, but call Him. There is plenty of judgement by the god of this earth, the spirit formerly known as Lucifer. He's up to plenty of antics. Including, and this is the oldest trick in his book, the corruption of the Word of God. If we believe the hype that God is vengeful, we will lose trust in Him. In the Old Testament God protected His chosen people against the Egyptians and so on... but in the New Testament we are all part of His family.

Brilliantly written and great point. Man continues in his ego-centric way to think that God is on "our side", I don't care who's side your on God don't take sides. Man stays locked in the greatest prison ever created that has killed and maimed more people thru recorded history than we could fathom because of MANS interpretation of God. Nothing has created a greater prejudice, divided people than religion and now people want to take a trajedy and use it to say, God is on our side. I don't believe for one second God punishes. I believe in blessings. Those who died are no longer tied to the bondage of this world there is no suffering where they are at they essentially have been blessed. Those here believed they have been blessed with life. Maybe not alot of anything else, but alive. I notice the ones who preach that God on our side stuff are the most regimented closed minded people and suffer from their own ignorance. Just love and treat others the way you would want to be treated. ALL the religions have these as the golden rules but they get shuffled under the meaningless rules and regulations man creates. This is not mango but her yank husband, cheerio.

OK everyone is taking this from the OT, but should not the NT lead the way now. If comparing both books, the OT is one of vengeance etc whilst the NT is one of forgivens etc.

The 2 preach very different words???

Even Jesus said only his father knows when the end time will be. So taking that no man can ever, ever say when that is

East17, you really know your bible stuff. But man interprets the bible and not always correctly. When reading the apostles they all say they different things about import parts of Jesus life its not the same.

Its like 5 people seeing a crime, all 5 will have a different story to tell.

Not to be controversial or anything.

Of course he does. He's English.

Just wish he was a Spurs supporter though.

Don't understand a word of it E17. Not a word. Kind of reminds me of the opening of "Number of the Beast" though. Altogether...6, 66, the number of the beast. Hell and fire............

free speach is a exellant idea they "the nutters " say whats on thier minds we know who they are . works for me

lol So again, where we gonna deport these nutters lol. Be  them muslim or christen or jew. Freedom of speech yes, but we must educate, cuz people do believe what these people have to say.

They preach "SEE IT MY WAY OR ELSE". Sad people believe them

Of course it is, I know that really. My comment was said with an exasperated sigh, perhaps I should have used one of those irritating yellow faces. The point John, is that some people don't know who the nutters are. There are people that will think, hey that's right, that's a message from God that all abortionists, gays, Americans (delete as appropriate) must die and I shall do my bit. Cut to shot of nail bomb going off in downtown gay bar.

Whilst freedom of speech can never be removed, these people need to be put on a leash. What are the options?

a) A nutter test prior to being allowed to spout off in public?
b) Making it criminal to incite racial or discriminatary violence - hang on, don't we have that one already?
c) Kill them? After all the hurricane must of got a few extremists, so its Gods will isn't it?

Sometimes, my mind gets off the leash and wanders into some unusual places. I found myself wondering if Pat Robertson should be arrested and tried for ordering the death of the Chief Justice. It couldn't go anywhere of course; but then I remember the former Chief Justice of Alabama, the one who had the ten commandments in the court and was kicked out. I would like to see it, even a good fake, just to shake the crap out of him.

A biblical truth greater than any spouted by these "scheinheiligen" in the OP.

Quote:
Acts 10:34
Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

If God took sides the Bible would be a lot thinner and the Jews would be the only people following his faith.

There is no god.

Therefore, there is no judgement.

It's not like we didn't know it was coming.

But did god tell the good guys to get out?

If there was a god and a judgement, Las Vegas would have been corpse soup years ago.
