The title of the post is "emigrating from the UK to Aus."

or did you mean where in Aus?

Hi Keith!

Welcome to Britnet.

Check out the official Australia migration website http//www.immi.gov.au/migrate/index.htm

If you dig through that site, you get a list of qualifying occupations. For electrician, it stipulates "special class" - no idea what that means, but it may mean something to you. Does your wife have a particular skill too?

As for moving, it's a big thing and it's not always easy. The key thing, IMO, is to be prepared for the downs as well as all the ups. Have you seen the various "No Going Back" episodes that have featured Australia (one of them was about an electrician)? I think all the families stayed on, even after rough starts.
Hi Monster. We want to emigrate to Australia.
We don't know where in Australia we want to emigrate to yet.Any suggestions?
Thanks for the info. There seems to be alot of companies offering visa checks. Are there any better ones than others do you know?

No, I completely overlooked that!

Although Aus is pretty big and it might help to know which region if we had many posters from there ;)

Could have been Austria
We have been considering Melbourne. Is that a popular place for English ex-pats? But we are completely clueless as to which company to use for visa checks, where to go,how to find work etc.The whole nine yards really.Basically, any info about anything from people already there or on there way would be helpful. We really do want to do this but don't know where to start really.I hope you can help.Thanx. Keith.
It could have been. You are correct there. But it is Australia, hopefully Melbourne we think. We've also got 2 small kids if that makes a difference,I dunno.

Apparently there's quite a large Brit community in Melbourne - my kid sister has just moved there, so let me pick her brains for you.

Thanks Vegas. As I said, all and any info/advice is greatly recieved
A mate of mine moved to Melbourne recently, and apparently there's plenty of Brits there. If being around other expats is important to you though, it seems the place to go is Adelaide - there's been a skills shortage there since the place has been expanding so much, and they're begging for skilled immigrants, so there's loads of expat Brits around, apparently. )

You can expect to be ridiculed as a Pom pretty much constantly, although apparently the accent sets in pretty quickly... lol
