Can I just say that I have come to view this show in a different light after living here for over 3 years. It's on PBS and originally I thought "Oh God is that our contribution to American TV?" Now I can see the genius of Mr Lucas and Mr Humphrey's characters. Yes I'm sad, but I don't care. At least I don't watch Keeping up Appearances.
I used to think it was funny at the time back home way back when, but seeing it over herenow makes me cringe. I honestly think it is so dated & pathetic
I'm a bit young to remember it first time around, but when in the States I just thought it was cool.....but then again I also watched Hyacinth Bucket and The Brittas Empire too....

You're not sad, just terribly misguided. Go to English Humour Counseling. Treatment includes video therapy where you watch genuinely funny British comedies like Black Adder, A League of Gentlemen and Fawlty Towers till your humour lobe gets back into working order.
For serious cases, i.e. those who can't get enough Benny Hill, there's a gentle approach that brings you slowly through the stages, starting with Two Pints of Lager and working through Rising Damp and Red Dwarf until you can handle the full might of Vic and Bob.

if you dont watch keeping up appearances you should try "to the manor born "
Someone needs to mention Red Dward here or it'd be a travesty......so let it be me.........a self-acclaimed Red Dwarf worshipper and cultist.
"Mr. Flibble's very cross........."
KR
Can't say I ever found Red Dwarf that entertaining..........never really got it, but liked Chris Barrie a lot more in the Brittas Empire( which has dated rather badly)
Vic and Bob - genius....most of the time.......
Fawlty Towers - outstanding.
League of Gentlemen - just find very creepy and not in the slightest bit amusing....
Last of the summer wines shows here, on TV Ontario. Still as funny as ever

I don't care I love them all, I cannot get enough of crap British comedy, 'cept for Benny Hill obviously.
Agreed - of course it is crap - but that's why I like it. Hell, I even watch Allo Allo here. Unlike Red Dwarf, which was supposed to be good, but was in fact, complete and utter pish. 2 good seasons and then it was just naff. Every other British show on PBS is dire too. I used to pine for good British drama. Then when it came on it seemed very camp, contrived and dull. Still, at least not everyone is either rich, stupidly attractive, or a superhero like in all US tv shows.
I like Benny Hill. And hating on the Dwarf? I'll give you that last season as a poop-fest, but it was cracking otherwise. Wish that BBC America would bring back "The Fast Show" or "Brilliant!" as it's called over here.
And "AYBS" has not dated at all well. Except the pussy jokes.

Sorry, and maybe it's bcos of my age but I think Last of The Summer Wine is one of the worst 'comedy' shows ever made.....contrived, devoid of laughs and with an over the top laughter track......however, my grandmother loves it.........

Have I mentioned how I admire older women?
I don't think any British "comedy" shows are very funny. British people don't have much of a sense of humour.
