All the kids in our school district have a laptop given them by Dell.

My sons jr.high school has had laptops from Apple for 2 years. I do believe Maine was the first state to start the laptop program and other states now copy it.
Originally there was a money put aside to fund the program and keep itself sufficient for years. Needless to say even though it was supposed to be untouchable the state dipped into it for other things leaving the program in jeopardy of not being able to expand to every kid in the state from kindergarten to 12th grade.
