I still find it amazing that there are a vast majority of military/military families that back Bush. I believe it is down to tradition (supporting Republicans because they generally stand for their values) and the classy way the current regime have hijacked the holy of holies - the American Flag.

It can't possibly be because they are getting sent to be training targets in the Middle East or the crappy services they can expect when they return.

It is probably for the best that the military do not see what is before them - there would probably be a coup d'etat if they truly realised how much they are taken for granted and treated as idiots.
Saw this image on the BBC - turns out this guy was attending one of the Chimp's speeches.

/props to the old guy and no mistake

Being from a military family, with one left working as a civilian after retiring from the army intel., they see him as commander in chief, and you don't question that. If a republican, then thats even better. Its the way its always been. At least that's what my grandpop tells me (WWII marine).. Although, he went with Kerry the last time round. None of us expected that one.

That picture is funny!

NOW,That was very good Mr. B.
married into a military family its the *country* they support .
Most would still be in support of govt milITARY action if it where a democrat in power .

As in vetnam .
army and their families have to convince themselves that all wars are patriotic. otherwise what's the point of fighting. ( Unless you just enjoy violence and adventure). Furthermore, since Bush is CinC and he's the boss and he's told them to fight (with the backing of the Senate) they have to go along.

Because they chose to join the army - they're already predisposed to all the BS Bush thrives on - war on terror blah blah blah - my duty to defend freedom blah blah blah/everyone hates America and is out to get us. Some people just like to be told what to think and what to do - isn't that the appeal of army life. It's better than working out complex positions to world problems - that's what 'liberals' are about - much easier to do what your told and start shooting ... evil
I guess what I am saying is that in my experience (some military and from military family, with sibling who commands a British regiment), British military families play it much more low-key.

They take a deep breath and hope that their loved ones return safely but they would never dream of standing up and defending the Ministry of Defense or the Government for sending them, whether the war was justified or not.

I also do not recall the Royal British Legion taking a stand politically, unlike the Legion here who voted recently against all forms of protest against the war.

I don't believe the military here or their families are truly listening to what the President is saying. He is clearly confused by watching too many John Wayne movies and thinks his soldiers are off storming Okinawa or raising flags on Mount Suribachi. Instead, they are under the same pressures they were under in Vietnam, with no front line and an enemy that doesn't really get "hurt", however much firepower you have on tap.

I don't know how it will all pan out in the future but I suspect many of these families will have to incur losses along the way. I sincerely hope mine does not, for some ridiculous war built on a pack of lies.
