I have no idea, but I wondered if marmite and vegamite are the same and what do you do with them.
They are interchangeable....but then I'm not a fan of either.

You don't want to know what I'd do with them! shock

Debs x lol lol
They're very similar but still do taste slightly different. I prefer Marmite, but if I could only get my hands on Vegiemite, it would be a suitable substitute.
Heck no!

Marmite is English and Vegemite is Australian.

It's like asking if Carling's the same thing as Fosters. They are both beer by definition, yes.

To be perfectly honest, I have never had Vegemite. I can get Marmite in the local Meijer or deli so I don't have a need to.

There's enough people asking me if I am Australian without giving them an alibi.
I don't think they taste the same at all
VM is bland
Marmite is full bodied mrgreen
The other part of my question was, " What do you use it for?"

I remember putting a little on bread and butter to add some taste, but always preferred bread and dripping.
I spread it on toast.

My Marmite says,

Yeast extract, Salt, Carrot and Onion Extracts, Spice Extracts. Enriched with Nicotinamide(niacin), Thiamin Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid and Cyanocobalamin(Vitamin B12.)

and it was best by 10-02. So it's a "bring over"

Always get/got Marmite mixed up with Bovril. Switched to vegemite occassionally.

I'm one of the odd Brits who doesn't like Marmite, I prefer Bovril. My husband brought a jar of Vegemite back from Oz when he was passing through & I can honestly say I've never tasted such vile stuff in my life, it makes marmite taste like nectar. It was good fun though trying to get the kids' pals to eat it. It's got to be bad even the dog curled his lip & backed off.

I wondered, I know marmite but I saw an Australian eating vegamite with a spoon and I couldn't imagine doimg that with marmite.

All our cats and dog like marmite.

My grandfather used to eat ginger out of a jar with a spoon.

I used to do that too. There was an old guy who had had a tea plantation in Ceylon. He went back to the UK in the thirties and started a company to employ a few people, including my dad. The man stayed in touch, and used to bring a jar of ginger in syrup when he visited. I used to be fascinated by his boots. They were made for him and repaired over and over but it was beautifully done and the leather was so soft.
