I stumbled over the Columbia Journalism Review site that has a list of corporations and a list of what they own. I honestly didn't quite how much some of them possessed.

Fascinating.
I did not know Hearst owned 'The History Channel' and 'A&E' channel.
Paul Allen's Vulcan (2nd biggest cheese round these parts) owns Charter Communications and I noticed a few weeks ago that he has a big share in Dreamworks SkG.
Isn't Spielberg rumoured to be selling dreamworks skg?

Yeah, that has been on the cards for some time. My other half was out to lunch with Spielberg a couple of years ago (seriously!) and it came up briefly but nothing has happened yet.
Edited to add he could only sell his share - Geffen and Katzenberg would still retain theirs but I don't think it will dissolve just yet. The company as a whole just spun off the animation which was the only profitable part I think, although how the movies don't make a profit is beyond me. Spielberg seems to do ok and his films do fine at the box office, as do other SKG films that he is not directly involved in.
I understand the animation sell-off was so that Paul Allen could recoup his investment back in the mid-90's when the company was started. He seems to be selling off a lot of stuff at the moment.
