Every now and again, I have this desire for the bread pudding I had as a child but I haven't found a recipe. On occasion, I see a "Bread Pudding " recipe but it turns out to be one that I know as Bread and Butter Pudding, it is buttered bread in an egg custard. Very pleasant indeed but not what I want. The one I want is made with stale bread, softened with water squished and mixed with spices, raisins and perhaps some candied peel. some how some butter or other fat is in there and it is baked. It doesn't rise, it is dense and moist. It was probably invented to use up the stale bread, perhaps during the war, but I miss it now and then.

Thank you thank you thank you.

I thought that I had checked her site. I did subscribe to her "Cooking for One" option.
She wasn't known when I came here, but I found her when I googled for Treacle Pudding, hers was a healthfood version that didn't use suet.

Enjoy!

But it's still just nursery food at the end of the day.

I actually find myself craving both. My nan made a great b&b pud when I was a youngster. My mum made bread pud a lot when we were older.

One of the buffet places makes great bread pud. I forget which one. Bob Evans maybe? Although their custard is always so gelatinous.
