So I have a simple question - why do Americans seem to really like the angry British arsehole - Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey, those demented Nannies, and Anne Robinson to name a few? There seems to be no end to the amount of arrogant foul mouthed British people on tv right now.
Of course, the part I like is that at the end of each show everyone knows that the foulmouthed angry British person is indeed, absolutely right.
Funny enough we were sort of discussing this last night whilst watching 'Hell's Kitchen'. The conclusion was that despite the fact they can be foul mouthed and angry, they have a warmth about them that comes across despite the attitude. When they are shouting in your face, it because you deserve it and if you do something well, then they will be equally as open about their thoughts.
In other words they come across as genuine rather than the 2 faced American tossers you normally come across.
By the way I am talking about Cowell and Ramsey, not the nannies, they drive me nuts. Has any American actually seen a typical UK Family, with their foul mouthed 2 yr who when he calls someone a cow or bitch, is seen as cute? Remember that happening way too frequently when I was in the UK, usually along street as you strolled by. I have always been impressed at how well behaved most kids in the USA are.
Actually its no surprise kids in the UK are so foul mouthed when you see it almost everyminute of the day on the TV!
Anyone seen the Craig Ferguson Show recently? I don't see it that often as it way pass my bedtime but do regularly see it on Fridays. It has definitely improved since the first few weeks when he was trying to be a regular US talk show host. Now he has got rid of the tie, tells antidotes about his views on life and is generally much more relaxed. Hope he continues, don't know what his shows ratings are like but he so so much better than that pseudo Irish twat on NBC who is one bitter and twisted man.

Thanks for the kind words but the big networks over here haven't yet decided to give me a season...
/Angry British Arsehole regards...
To digress slightly the Americans who make it in the UK are a 'type' too.
When I left the UK the most prominent US media personality was Alvin Hall - a black and ever so campy 'financial expert'. There was also a very large lesbian from New Jersey who helped Danny Baker out on BBC London in the mornings.
They are both quiet witty and a good swap for a big shouty person like Gordon Ramsey.
Americans are like kids, they may be bratty but they are desperate for a parental figure to tell them what to do.
George III - was not bossy enough? ???
George III - was not bossy enough? :???:
Certainly not English enough...
Strange thing is in real life is the American who shouts when things go wrong or they disagree and its the Brits who grim and bare it .
Thats why they like it they see themselves .
Well, it's a bit of a double-edged sword isn't it? The Brits are mis-represented on US television, and the Americans are mis-represented on UK television.
Why on EARTH would the UK have Jerry Springer (this is why most Brists who have NEVER been to the US think we are all insane, I imagine), and that Trisha woman back to back? Trash is trash. No matter what country they are brought up in.

Jerry may be trashy, but he's a Brit.

Notice I said, no matter what country they are brought up What I am saying is that the misrepresentation of the cultures shows up on either side of the pond.

Yeah but he's from Stoke. And they're all demented.
