With the new Dukes of Hazzard movie soon to be released I have read several blogs (such as the one below) complaining this new movie will worsen the perception that people from the deep south are rednecks and ridiculing the deep south is one of the few acceptable predjudices left.

Bascially this is what i am trying to ask?

1. Do movies/media affect how you percieve and countries/people and do you feel the media/movies do too much stereotyping.

2. What is peoples perception of the Deep south.

3. Does anyone think that ridiculing the Deep south is one of the few acceptable predujices.

Oh i think so the traditional movie * Bad guy * as depicted by hollywood is alway plain ,odd loking or extrem;ly ugly while the* good guy/hero * is extremly good loking clean cut nice smile dresses well and is a hit with hte women .

Many examples of this * type assumption * can be seen in recent high profile murder cases repored on substantially by court tv and such like media .

In the case of the little girl that was abducted and murdered in florida recently the concencus of most of the * arm chair * judges was the father * Mark lunsford was the perpatrator of the crime as he looked and dressed like a *redneck and had a evil eye *

QUESTION what does a murderer look like ??

Scott peterson ?

charlles manson ?

Another example was the man falsely accused by the police of planting the bomb at the atlanta olyimpics ( Richard Jewel ) he must be quilty was the thought on most folks minds as he... looked and acted strange and lived with mum ...turnes out he was completly innocent and received a large compensation from the authorities after his personal life had been ruined and he was labels a * devient * by the press .

Who would have thought one of the famous of all killers *Ted Bundy * was a serial killer . intelligent , good looking ,charming , ladies man , yet one the the most inhuman murderers of our time.did he look like the steriotype serial killer as depicted on films and tv ..???? NO

Yes the american public is vey open to * suggestion* subtle or otherwise of what * label * to put on people simple by there looks, acts ,mode of dress ,etc

Many times in the 70/80 i was called dirty hippy cus of long hair ,does that mean folks with long hair are dirty .. NO but maybe
smile

1. No, people affect how I perceive people and countries.

2. It's a vision of Hades. Branson is one of the gates to hell. Toothles, banjo-playing, christian fundamentalists.

3. No more than ridiculing any other ethnic group. I will ridicule anyone I bloody well like. And if you want, you can find something to point out and laugh about for any state in the union.

Everything affects my perception of everything else....whether I like it or not, a movie will alter my thinking. I think that's the same for everyone.
