I was just reading an interesting article about Roald Dahl and the Cadbury's plant at Bourneville, near Brum. When I was a kid and I used to travel on the train through Bourneville I always used to wonder if it was Wonka's Chocolate factory?
I could have been right....... wink

Just got home from seeing the movie - Interesting, but of course I like Johnny Depp so would like it anyway.

You need a warped mind to watch it and get all the quips throughout the movie.
We had a good laugh with it, as daughter, granddaughter and myself all have warped minds. mrgreen
I got inside the Bourneville factory years ago on a sales call. I didn't see any ompa lumpas (sp?) but I only got to see the IT Dept. - perhaps they are only allowed to manual labour as ompa lumpa IT qualifications are not recognised in the UK.

Maybe they outsourced the oompa loompas to China?

That's a good article. I enjoyed reading it.
Was interesting.

I too thought a similar thought each time I'd come down through Bournville and see the factory on the train.

I stayed in a Youth Hostel in York once that was right next to Terry's factory.

Oompa-Roompas?

Bit odd to put this in Food forum, surely? ?
We went to the cadbury's factory when my uncle visited from the states while we were still living in England. I'm guessing it would have 1993/94. You pay a nominal fee and go on this tour.
It's quite interesting and you pretty much get your money back with all the free chocolate bars that get thrust into your hands as you're walking around.
When we finally got out all I could smell for several hours was chocolate.

There was another good article abour Roal Dahl in the New Yorker a few weeks ago. He wrote all his books in a potting shed. In some corners of the US they tried to get his books banned from libraries - because nasty things happened to adults in them and it gave children dangerous ideas...
