Shows how out of touch with UK i am i thought he was already pushing up the daisys

Rather a hapless party leader, but I'd have taken his brand of conservativism over Thatcher's regime.

I never understood how he got such a posh accent. I suppose you can't really succeed in that 'party' without sounding like you've swallowed a wombat.

He liked sailing though so he can't have been that bad.
Well let's see.

He really wasn't a fan of the US at all. He was really big on "Europe." He didn't like Thatcher at all and wsa very pleased that she became so hated. He never married which has led gay-tories to whisper that he was Britain's first gay PM. I believe he was at a Nuremburg rally at one time and saw Hitler, but dunno in what context. (anyone?) I read this weekend that his being in politics 25 years after his party and the British people had rejected him was "the longest sulk in history." He was one of the loudest opposition voices to the Iraq war.

So big on Europe, not big on the US, against the Iraq war, and big sailor. Sounds like your kind of fella Moo.
Heath says in his memoirs that he went to Nuremburg in '37 and literally brushed shoulders with Adolf Hitler - however, he's always been on the record as anti-appeasment so I suspect he just had the opportunity and means to go check out what was going on in Germany and took it.

He fought in WW2 in Europe as well, I think.
Yeah he fought in the war that's right.

I'm not trying to upstage what you just said or anything but he did brush shoulders with Hitler and he shook hands later with Himmler. He said that Himmler had the most creepiest handshake   he was an observer at Nuremburg.

I just thought I'd add that I listened to a story about his pre war exploits on Radio 5 Live this morning or else I'd have never have known

He was quite a music fan too. I never liked Heath, what with him being a tory but his hatred for Thatcher and what she stood for gave me a little bit of respect for him.

Heath went into Europe for the wrong reasons, capitalist economic consolidation is a crap reason, easier access to birds is much better. ;)

Only know one sailor type joke .

how much did it cost the pirate for his hook and peg foot ?

A ARM AND A LEG .

A limerick .

There was a young sailor named Bates
Who danced the fandango on skates.
He fell on his cutlass
Which rendered him nutless
And practically useless on dates!
Now that we got all the nautical jokes over and done with this topic should be plain sailing from here........ roll
