To Neils wife, so sorry if you were offended by our "taking the piss". However, this is what we Brits do amongst friends. Sarcasm is a big part of the British humour that we are famous for, and in general, people usually know this and find it pretty amusing.
Take some time to read through some of the other threads on Britnet, and you will read this kind of humour over and over.
So, sorry if Neil was offended, but I really doubt that he was, since he is British. He probably has the same kind of humour himself.

HOVIS BREAD - make it yoursef !!
NO-KNEAD HOVIS BREAD
2 cups milk
1/3 cup mild molasses
2 T. butter or hard marg.
2 t. salt
1/4 t. ground ginger
1/2 t. gravy browner
1 cup natural bran (not cereal)
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup cocoa
2 pkgs. instant yeast
2 cups whole wheat flour, approx.
Scald milk in large. saucepan. Pour into large bowl.
Add molasses, butter, salt, ginger and gravy browner.
Stir. Cool to lukewarm.
Add bran, wheat germ, first amount. of whole wheat flour, cocoa and yeast.
Mix.
Work in enough remaining flour until dough pulls away from sides of bowl.
Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
Cover with greased waxed paper & tea towel. Let stand in oven with light on & door closed for about 1- 1/2 hrs. until doubled in bulk.
Punch dough down.
Divide in half. Shape into small loaves. Place in 2 4x8x3 inch loaf pans.
Cover with greased waxed paper & tea towel. Let stand in oven with light on & door closed for about 40 mins. until doubled in size.
Bake in 375F oven for 30 to 35 mins. Turn out onto racks to cool. Makes 2 loaves.
Sounds a bit over the top and complicated for me, but nontheless authentic. Mind i'm not sure what scalding the milk means. I'm guessing let it come to a boil and remove from heat immediately. Cos it's hot enough to do damage, as in scalding hot. Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong.

Annie, I have been trying to get my picture to work for a couple of months now, but theres something wrong with Britishexpats website. My image is 70 - 70 but it wont download it and says its too big? So I thought I would try someones elses to see if theres worked! so I tried Wendys and it worked, so I went to try and delete it and it wont let me delete it. So it looks like Im stuck with it sadly. cry
Neil, sorry i can't help you there. Him indoors did mine and I sat and watched and wrote down what he did and when I tried it. Zip!. nothing worked for me! Anyway you have Wendls photo, not bad eh! I'm sure someone will help, are you on a PC or a mac.?

I have been trying to write this post for about twenty minutes but I keep breaking into helpless laughter at the situation. I hasten to add that the fault is in me, I'm the type that would laugh at someone slipping on a banana peel.
My question is: are you guys now a menage a trois or a menage au quatre?

I am doing exactly the same thing.... Laughing like a crazy woman sitting at my computer in my otherwise quiet house. If the kids or him in bed woke up, they would wonder what the hell was going on. I must say, WITHOUT taking the p***, that you having Wendl's photo as your avatar Neil, is hilarious. I wish it were my photo you had. :wink:
Good luck at getting your pic up there. I have tried to put an avatar up myself, but have no idea what I'm doing. :sad: Not too computer literate unfortunately. You're better at it than me, even if it is a photo of Wendl you are showing.

East17 fixed my problem...I really thought I would have Wendys pic for ever as nothing I did would remove it! I can see the funny side of it all though but I have to say that ealier when I couldnt get rid of Wendys Pic I was not happy!
