Your favorite American/Canadian/elsewhere food that you discovered after moving here/there?
What is your favorite British food since moving to the states/Canada/elsewhere and was probably something you never bothered with before moving away from the UK?
Favourite food I've discovered has to be the whole Mexican thing. Tacos y burritos y chimichangas y quesadillas = mas bueno. Living in Vegas is great for the whole Meskin food thing, there are like 4 24 hour taco places in my 'hood, and I could eat Meskin food every day for the rest of my life and not get bored with it.
Regarding UK food I am jonesing for some Lincolnshire snausages, haslet and proper fricking bacon. That's about it really, I don't miss a whole lot of the British cuisine.
Ribs!! Boy.... Americans know how to do ribs!! I love em.
Took me two years to actually discover them as I wouldnt order them in a restaurant cos I thought they would be measly gristle and fat ridden pieces with no meat on them like they are in the UK.
From back home I miss a full english breakfast, baked potatoes from those street barrows where they put everything on them, hot pork sandwiches with crackling and fish and chips with gravy.
Mandy
Mexican
miss all my favorites from home - too long to list and basically are just all the usual suspects
I love the salads over here. I rarely ate salad back home, but I love the huge selection of salad foods here and I eat it at every opportunity.
From back home, I have two big 'misses' - British/Danish bacon and fish and chips. When I was in the UK I seldom ate either, but over here I crave them! I buy British/Danish bacon online, so that craving, at least, can be satisfied.
As for a decent fish supper................ cry (I don't wanna hear it, Glaswegian! !!! mad wink ).
fish and chips. When I was in the UK I seldom ate but over here I crave them!
I know just what you mean. When we first moved to the US I had terrible cravings for fish, chips and mushy peas and yet we hardly ever had them in the UK. Maybe once a year. We have a pub nearby that serves really good fish and chips. We hardly ever go but I don't get cravings anymore since we found the place!
One thing I don't think all of us (except my daughter) could not live without is Frank's hot sauce. Wow! We just love the stuff. We make our own hot wings with this stuff and they are just the best. :) Something we never had before living in the states.
Have to agree with the Mexican food as well. although we always ate things like chili back home, you can't beat the authentic mexican restaurants and food here. Yummy :)
I've not discovered anything wonderfull but I do miss, Fish and Chips, fresh fish, freshly baked bread from the bakers round the corner, pub lunches/roasts, my mums roast lamb.
Never had Thai food until I got here which I love, favourite Thai restaurant unbelievably in Maine. Love Mexican and love fried chicken (Popeyes!) Miss sausages, pies, pasties, bacon, Ok got to go now I'm hungry.....
Tex-mex is definitely my favourite discovery. I LOVE cheese enchiladas. We eat mexican food once a week at least. I'd miss it if we moved away.
I miss cockles and laverbread and also proper Indian food.
