Is anyone tempted to watch the updated version of Willie Wonka (Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) From what Ive read its a little bit more darker and a little more true to Roald Dahl's tale. When I watched the musical (with Gene Wilder) when I was a kid I was a little disappointed because it wasnt the same as the book I recently read back then. So I'm tempted to watch it. Its got to be an improvement on Bewitched which I watched the other week. I like Nicole Kidman but I dont think that Nicole could rescue that film shock

I reckon Willy Wonka(ala. Johnny Depp) bears a sticking resemblence to Michael Jackson.
Before or after?

After, obviously. I mean he was black before... 8)

thats funny cos I heard someone else say that recently too

From http//news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4670153.stm

Depp said his inspiration for the Wonka character was "part game show host, part children's show host... locked in a closet for about 10 or 15 years".

But he has denied rumours that he based his performance on Michael Jackson.

"It never entered my mind," he told Sydney's Herald Sun newspaper, saying the character was more similar to reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes.

And from Tim Burton
However, he has also poured scorn on the mooted Jackson connection.

"I always laugh about that because to me there is like a night and day difference," he told reporters in Australia recently.

"Michael Jackson likes children and Willy Wonka can't stand children

Its official then

It's Jackson grin

There ya go...
There is something about the Amelie' and Johnny Depp pic, they are both French now, so to speak, as Johnny lives in Paris with his wife Vanessa Paradise ( a cutie )
I saw a a review of it on the TV yesterday. I want to see it, but I agree, he definately reminded me of Michael Jackson. It was some of the mannerisms as well as the looks and sometimes even the voice.

That is a rather strange eerie likeness?
I never thought of Michael Jackson when I see the trailer??
Now that would be really bizarre

Saw an advance screening of this last night (the one perk of my job). I thought it was excellent. Not a remake of the Gene Wilder version (which, by the way, Roald Dahl hated) but much truer to the spirit of the book - dark, in that Tim Burton way. I read that the Dahl estate love this version, claiming this is how Dahl himself would have made it.
When I was leaving, I heard several people make the Michael Jackson comparison. In my opinion, Depp was way creepier than MJ - a very good performance. I think people will either love or hate this one. If you want an updated version of the Wilder movie, you probably wont like this. If you want a more Dahl-esque version, this fits the bill perfectly. YMMV, as always.
