8) It seems to me that the next generation will be a bunch of in-greats.
Those individuals that have not had to pay for anything, cuz mummy and daddy got it for them, then want the 120K yr job because they went to Uni, want the 200k house plus car to go with it.
What ever happened to working your way up the pecking order. Say its just me lol
Anything to oblige,
It's just you! wink
In otherwords educate your kids, teach them the values of education, self reliance and let them know that if you want something, you've got to work hard for it. "don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country"......the words of a very wise man.
If kids of nowadays are not taught that, we are going to see an increase in crime, and a lot of more homeless people. Also I guess it helps to only indulge yourself in things you can only afford, i.e don't end up with loads of kids and expect society to carry the brunt of it, especially if your joint income doesn't permit this.
The Greek philosopher Plato studied under Socrates. Plato complained about the youth of the day, also. "What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"
Here's another one
"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint" (Hesiod, 8th century BC).
"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest
and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
...an extract from a sermon allegedly preached by Peter the Hermit in A.D. 1274!

Its asking to much of bleeding heart liberals to teach those who feel they can have as many kids as they like the responsibity that goes with it ..
while the govt provides they wil continue to take

Yep, from the beginning of time, youth has alway be seen to the destruction of life as we know it. In the end of the 70's when I was at college, I heard the same refrain as it was the beginning of the punk era. I am sure my parents at the end of the 50's heard the same with the start of the rock and roll era. In 50 yrs from now my kids will be saying the same of their grandchildren's time and so time rolls on.

Children don't usually ask to be born, John. If the parents aren't able to support them fully, what do you suggest the government should do? Ignore them so they can truly become an underclass, or help them to access the benefits of society that everyone else is lucky enough to be entitled to?
I doubt that the young people that Goose has in mind are the same as those who reproduce recklessly.
My stepdaughter like many kids has passing obsessions. It used to be horses until she found out that it actually took work to look after them, then it was writing, until she found out she couldn't spell..or write for that matter. Then is was cuddly toys. Now it is cars. "I want to be a mechanic, I love making things work" until she finds out that after working on engines everyday actually makes you dirty.
"I want to be a real estate agent" until she found out she has to work evenings and weekends.
"I want to be a design engineer" until she found out that she would need great scores in math and would need to study things like structural engineering and fluid dynamics.
"I only like things that boys like" well actually she doesn't, she loves things that girls like but doesn't want to admit it, she is like most other girls but wants to be an individual. We worry that she will waste her life and do nothing, when in fact, through experience she will find her own way and do just fine, just like we all did.
Parents will never stop worrying about their kids, kids will never stop complaining that their parents don't understand them. Nothing changes, except perhaps, the number of ringtones on their cell phones that they now cannot live without.
Great post eastendboy! Sort of a Britnet "Thought for the Day" smile

My brother-in-law is only young and he's decided that when he gets his own place he wants to buy a dishwasher because he doesnt do the washing up now and doesnt want to do the washing up ever, so I said "okay then are you going to install it and plumb it in? " and he lost all interest in having a dishwasher after that!!
You'd have to do some work for that........
Dishwasher is one of those silly inventions that is just a waste of space and money, it's right up there with that LG fridge that has a TV in front of it roll What happened to using your hands to wash the plates and drying them up, or even hand washing your clothes ? ( which I still do ), even though there is a washer and dryer in the house.
Do you have a scrubbing board and a mangle as well then?
