Apparently, Fox Sports World will be broadcasting the Nationwide English 1st Division Play-off Final from Cardiff, live this Sunday.
Kick-off time is 7.30 am Pacific and 10.30 am eastern.
I support neither Norwich or Birmingham but I prefer Nationwide League to Premiership so will definitely be watching. Perhaps they will look at other teams who have done rather well this season in the Nationwide smile
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that.
Getting promoted to the premiership can be a mixed blessing. As you may have guessed from my nickname I am a Charlton fan and I was at Wembley when we beat Sunderland in the playoff final four years ago. All the fellow addicks that I speak to now can't wait until we get relegated again, the Premier league has become incredibly dull. Admission prices, when you can get a ticket, are way too high and everybody takes themselves far too seriously. I have to admit to feeling nostalgic about midweek away trips to Port Vale on a freezing cold Febuary night. Call me mad but football just seemed much more fun then. Now that every game is a 'big' game all the games have become boring.
Charlton are playing my team Plymouth in a pre-season friendly in July.
There have been a couple of links between the clubs, Gary Nelson being the obvious one. What a gent he is. Think he works for the PFA now - I have both his books at home and they are a great read. Also, the BBC made a documentary last year where they exchanged the Commercial Managers of both clubs for a couple of weeks. I did not get to see it but I heard it was not bad. Of course, they hyped Charlton as being successful and made Plymouth out to be quite lowly but this was really before things had started to turn around for Plymouth. I heard the editing left out some of the improvements that were going on, as it would have spoiled the contrast.
Sorry to hear that the fans are not keen on them being in the Premiership but I can understand that. Charlton did well to hold their own though.
I have read Left foot forward and think it is one of the best football biographies around. In many ways Gary Nelson typifies what I miss now that we are in the Premiership. He was never actually that good but he was an honest, hard working player who gave a lot to whatever club he was playing for. The trouble with the Charlton team at the moment is that they are all too good. I don't mean that in a boastful way, it's just that I get just as much pleasure from remembering the complete clowns (and there have been many of them) that have played for Charlton over the years as I do the few great players that we have had.
Still if we do get relegated I will miss having the opportunity to watch them on Fox sports World.
Just watched the Birmingham/Norwich game. It was a heart stopper, unfortuantly someone had to loose, sympathy to Norwich [with Ipswich relegated it would have been nice to have an East Anglian team in the ELP]. Good luck to Steve Bruce and the team for next season.
I watched it too. Wasn't bad at all once extra time kicked off and the goals started coming.
Penalties are a hard way to lose out but credit to Birmingham.
I think that the first division play-off final is rapidly becoming what the FA cup final used to be - A passionate game, with something important at stake, played before emotional supporters in a party mood. As a neutral I found that I couldn't care less about the FA cup final this year and couldn't get up the interest to watch it but I wouldn't want to miss out on the play off final, no matter who it was between.
p.s Congratulations to Jasper Carrot. Commiserations to Delia Smith.
