Once agan we are in the mist of a hot debate as to who if ( anybody ) should set for us a moral code .

make me laugh when the righous right delcare that the "ten commandments* are the basis of the foundation of the country and the basis for our laws .

lets look at that shall we ....

(1) thou shall have no other gods before me .

That one is out america is al about the GOD money so that dont apply .

( 2 ) Thou shall not have any craven images ..

thats also out folks craven images are all over ther country and the catholics have mary and many citizens idolize movies or sports stars ,no law againt that .

(3) thou shall not take the name of thy god in vain .

sorry thats also not covered by law .. cursing (jesus christ ) is used my much of the country .

(4) remember the sabbath and keep it holy .

What and not have football , pubs open , and general activities not associated with worship of a deity .

(5 ) Honor they father ond mother .

sorry thats out to, no law in this country that resticts you from bad mouthing your perants .

(6) thou shall not kill

So you get that one .thats illegal (up to a point )

(7 ) thou shall not commit adultery .

well we all know about that one its not illegal and if it was most of the *moral rigthous * would be in jail .

(8 ) thou shall not steal

you win its illegal ( except of course when the church rips you of with collections and promises you a place in the afterl iefe if you do the churches bidding .

(9 ) thou shall not bare false witness against your nieghbour .

you lose again not illlegal to lie a little .

(10) thou shall not covet they nieghbours wife ,servant , house or ass

every body aquires what they can within the law from anybody including houses, wifes , servents (workers ) etc ..dont know about the *ass bit *

So there we have it 2 out of 10 gets to be written into US law ( somewhat ) not a good start for a country that supposidly uses the ten commandments as its foundion for law and order .

What a crock of shit

Number 5 is always a good one, something most parents need to induce in their kids wink
Its more likely the US was formed as a segular state not a religious one as the foundling fathers chose to IGNORE eight of the ten commands decreed from god NOT follow them when framing laws .

the two they folowed have some basis in law in all countrys religious or otherwise ..
IMO the ten commandments only has a place in a court in a historical context.

Looking at the two commandments of the new covenant, many Christian Americans pass the first one, but fail on the second Love thy neighbour. Which is why we need courts in the first place!

agree 100%

As a committed Athiest, I don't mind the 10 commandments in public arena's......religion has a place in the world, even if I disagree with a lot of it.
