This is a really sad news, and am sure if you ask the parents of those that lost their kids, they will probably say it's time to get out. Women soldiers were ambushed a few days ago

As stupid as the reasons for this war was, it would be wrong to pull out prematurely.
They have to face the fact that they may be there for many more years.
I just hope they have learnt their lesson. Unfortunately memories are short and Iraq may become just anothe big mistake like Vietnam.
Instead of undercutting terrorism and improving the lives of oridinary Iraqis, US occupation thus far has devastated the lives of civilian Iraqis and fuelled increasing resistance from radical insurgents. The US has surely created a monster, however unless Bush is prepared to admit he made a terrible mistake starting an aggressive, unjust war that was possibly planned long before 9/11, accepts the inevitable humiliation, relinquishes US profiting of the rebuilding and vast reserve of Iraqi oil, I foresee the ongoing occupation of the country for many years to come.
The same Washington mentality that prolonged the Vietnam War is being witnessed again with the war in Iraq. Sickeningly, the US seems less committed to it's Military men and women than they are to their country, as has been evidenced by the the lie that sent them to Iraq in the first place, poor planning strategies and inadequate equipment and provisions - to name but a few.
I will not be listening to Bush and his "War on Terror" rhetoric on Tuesday. It/he makes me sick.
Ditto Ellie, that's a pretty good summing up I think.
it would be wrong to pull out prematurely.
.
While not fail safe, this often is the best course of action, saves creating a bigger mess in the long run.

That maybe a logical course of action but Bush has publicly put himself into a corner......
Bush, and his adminstration has always maintained that they will not leave until 'the job is done' and at the moment their resources are spread and soldiers are being killed daily by the insurgents who are killing politicians/US sympathisers and disrupting the public utilities and commerce of Iraq.
So the (shrinking) coalition forces are staying. Bush doesnt want to lose face with his domestic & global political opponents by pulling out, Bush doesnt want to give any vindication to critics of his war strategy, and Bush doesnt want to alienate his supporters, but with a lowering war support rating he has public opinion going against him.I dont think that would be enough to get Bush to pull the forces out.
It just makes you wonder if there truly is an exit strategy?

Of course there is, he thought that out long ago.
His second term is up in 2008. Then it's the next fool's problem.

A Whitehouse exit strategy....
The problem might be that America being a young and immature country have difficultly sustaining a camping for very long, and in fact as we have seen with their friendly fire instances, tend to shoot off prematurely way before they've even thought of withdrawing. This of course leads to many unwanted instances and a can create dissatisfaction with its partners.
In summary, if they don't withdraw quick, this whole mess will turn into an abortion.

I thought after the election in Iraq, all this stuff was supposed to 'go away'. Or is that another lie?

Not REALLY a lie, just wishfull thinking.
Thats the great thing about democracies. Once a leader is out of office he can always blame it onto the next administration, if it continues to go down the toilet.
... America ... difficultly sustaining a camping for very long,
I know a few Americans that will go pitch a tent for weeks on end... although maybe you're referring to the small amount of annual leave they get here...

That's Viagra for you...
8) Its going to be a long haul. but I am not sure if the american public know that yet and how they are going to take a couple of GI's being killed every month or so. I hope they can stay the long haul now, cuz pulling out will turn it into a blood bath. Maybe thats way I think the Draft should come back. Get it over and done with.

I agree, if there is anything that would sort Iraq out now is a lot more killing and maiming.
