I showed a couple of episodes to a bunch of supposedly anglophile yanks last night and none them laughed at Little Britain. In fact they thought it juvenile and a little crude, which is precisely why its funny.

They seem to like Ali G and other British comedians. Has anyone else experienced this type of reaction?

I think they should use this programme as the British citizen test. If you laugh, you're in.
Yeah but no yeah.....a few of my canadian colleagues don't get it either, even though have learnt them the dvd. They do get the office though, as they told me it's well funny
I think it may be because half the comedy in Little Britain is based on UK pop culture, with references to Marjorie Dawes out of the nursery rhyme, and a whole series of skits on a show that wasn't well known outside of the Commonwealth (Dennis Waterman); they save themselves with the "Kelsey Grammar school" joke though.

My TnS loves it. It's one of her favourite shows!
My other half loves it too. He loves Majorie Dawes but I have to explain lines like "cravings, not John Cravings Newsround" and the above Dennis Waterman stuff so I can definately see why people have some probs with it.

I just love a bit of cake. I do.
I've never seen it....no cable, left England 5 years ago. I feel deprived cry
Download it if you can, season 1 and 2 and the christmas special with George michael and elton john in it.

When they visited, I guess the Welsh guy was no longer "the only gay in the village" then?

I think it's okay, but the format annoys me a bit and some of the bits get a bit old when they essentially do the same idea over and over again (like those recurring bad sketches on Saturday Night Live). Still, it does have the occasional moment of comic brilliance.
Ive watched Little Britain a couple of times, and I find it hilarious, but I can see why americans wouldnt find it funny to them. Maybe if you put all the characters in an apartment block, or had a fat ugly bloke living with a gorgeous wife and gave them all some witty one liners theyd think it was the best thing since sliced bread!! roll wink
