We've got an opened bottle of white wine in the fridge (husband is teetotal sad ) and I never did get round to drinking it. It's been there for about three weeks! Obviously I can't drink it, but is it ok to use for cooking?

I have no idea how quickly opened bottles of wine should be used up; and is there a difference between the longevity of red and white wines?

(I can guess who will answer this one!) razz

No. It's over and done with. Throw it away. You could quite possibly make yourself ill.

Air (or oxidisation) is the killer of wines, so ideally they should be drunk the same day they're opened. Otherwise replace the cork, refrigerate and drink within 24 hours.

Alternatively, if you have a vacuvin (a little rubber cork and a corkscrew like plunger device that creates a vacuum in the bottle)you can pump the bottle and keep it refrigerated for about 3 days.

Both red and white wines deterorate at the same rate (I think).

Andrew

Thanks Andrew - it's going down the sink!

lol
Leftover wine?
What's that? grin
About twenty minutes in our house, fridge, what's that for. lol
I freeze left over wine in small tupperware or glad containers and use it in sauces ie beef in red wine, chicken in white wine...and when i fancy a tiny bit of wine but dont want to open a bottle i thaw a tiny container out...enough for a glass say...

dont drink the sediment though!
You drink it?
Yuk
Well at least you know that its had time to breathe.

I meant not after 3 weeks, you don't ever have left over wine!

what i mean is, when i cant drink anymore i put it straight in the freezer. Ok, so there may only be a glass or two to freeze...

NFP and left over wine? Are you serious? grin
Rubbish, it's alcohol, right? That kills germs, so beer / wine / vodka / etc is a Health Food.

Seriously, you have wine left over? eek
Oops still have a bottle of wine leftover from january lol anyone want alcohol poisoning?
What about Buckfast tonic wine? How long do you reckon I can keep an opened bottle of that, as it's fortified wine?
