I thought it was an excellent film too. Many of the actors/actresses - Thandie Newton, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock (surprisingly as I usually can't stand her) especially - are utterly convincing and capture and portray the emotions incredibly well. I liked the fact as well that the first time you see the characters you have your own prejudices and views about them and probably judge them, but as the film progresses and you learn more about them, you realise that your initial impressions/prejudices should perhaps be revised.
I was worried at the start that it was going to be in-your-face about racism and prejudices throughout the whole film, but after the initial 'setting the expectations' I think it hits the right balance between highlighting the issues but telling a story as well. There are a couple of parts where it could be seemed as being a little 'too' contrived - the 'Crash' itself for example - but it is a film that makes you think and it stayed with me for a long time after seeing it. I usually leave a cinema and forget immediately what I have just seen, so I figure it must have been good! wink
