The original of Vanilla Sky starring non other than Penelope Cruz and Eduardo Noriega.

Raw, powerful, and for me a behind the sofa, oh my god, movie.

Difficult to watch and much better than Vanilla sky.
I also recommend it - I saw it a while ago in the UK when it was released at the flicks. I never saw Vanilla Sky because Tom Cruize gets on my wick and there was no way it could match the original.

Interesting 'movie fact' is that Penelope Cruz was the female lead in both movies. I find her very watchable wink Though anyone who could date Tom Cruize is obviously not my type evil

Evidence suggests you like Spanish movies (2 recent posts). - A mi tambien! Almodovar films are well known over here but if you've not seen Jamon Jamon or (Heuvos d'Oro) Golden Balls) they are both hilarious and my personal favourites..
Thanks for the tip, just ordered Golden Balls from netflix. I don't think it's so much Spanish films as NOT American Hollywood shoot em up mindless trash.

I'm now 'Netflixed up'. - your post put me on to it. We watched our first movie last night. We'll be exhausting Italian cinema at our 'casa' because of my wife's nationalitiy.

I've seen a lot of Italian movies in recent times. I do quiet like them. Last nights choice was called In ho no paura (I'm not scared).

Set in the 70's - 10 year old boy finds a boy chained up down a hole. He soon discovers that the boy is a kidnap victim and his parents own parents are involved. 'Home Alone' it is not. (
We just got Eraserhead. So glad he progressed to movies without food in excess. Probably won't beable to look at a chicken again for a while. Unless of course it's "wrapped in plastic" lol wink
I never liked that movie Erazerhead - but we watched 'Bad Education' last. Our netflix queue is full of co-chosen ‘arty tasteful European movies’ (but I managed to sneak Dodgeball in when the Mrs popped to the loo) Sssh!
Oh, how weird, how was Bad Education, him indoors ordered it and we're planning to watch it tonight!
Last night was Bubba Ho tep. Strange, odd, highly amusing but I didn't see the end, I was too knackered and retired, but him indoors enjoyed it. Light and fluffy although short on eye candy. D
Him indoors is asking have you yet seen Facing Windows, and if not why not, you'll love it. Well, if you don't , the wife will. Buy tissues. wink
We simply adore netflix in this house , only way you can see long lost and independent filmwithout going to the extreme of buying them from a dodgy catalogue or scanning ebay for the title .

We have a Q of about thirty right now and usually see in the region of nine to twelve a month .

I love the fact i can a lot of the 70s indy and underground films from them and some of the latest from british, french ,spanish, and italian studios

Two that we enjoyed this month .

ALL OR NOTHING
starring Anthony Spall

STAGE BEAUTY.
starring Billy Crudup

I just saw it. Decent movie, but not really that funny. Pretty tragic in places. Prefer Almadovar. What on earth was the point of final Miami sequence? That's didn't seem to serve any useful purpose other than providing the actors and crew with a nice holiday in South Beach.

(And, by the way, when did Benidorm transfer into Manhattan? So many skyscrapers! Not like when I went there when I was ten to Pontinental!)

Bad Education was good. (though I enjoyed All about My mother much more I think)

I'm Italian Movie king. I saw Facing Windows about six months ago. - we get involved in some of the Italian fim festivals that seem to be on every other month in NY. The thing about Italian movies (when comparing them to Hollywood schlock) is they alway get me and the wife talking. I guess that's because they often focus on relationships and 'normal life' in a much more real way than 'Hitch' for example.

Two movies currently doing the rounds that you and hubby might like are
'A heart elsewhere' - not yet released on CD but can be seen on Netflix as pending . It's a film about 'being shy' and very moving. We atttended a screening at which the director (Pupi Avati) spoke afterwards. A really inspiring character and very nice man. He was a mediocre jazz musician who by strength of personality decided to become a film director .

Another one to look out for is 'La Febbre/The Fever'. This is a bit more political but the story of a young man trying to open a nightclub/cut through the local bureacracy/to stop his mum interfering with his life/get a girlfriend. It's done really well in Italy and goes a long way to explaining why the country is so screwed up right now.

As I'm new to Netflix - if any Britnetters want to become 'Friends' we can experimet with the ratings system...

Jeez. :o It was made in 1993 and I saw it at the cinema. I thought it was funny at the time but don't ask for any specifics.
