"Judge Parents can't teach pagan beliefs
Father appeals order in divorce decree that prevents couple from exposing son to Wicca.
An Indianapolis father is appealing a Marion County judge's unusual order that prohibits him and his ex-wife from exposing their child to "non-mainstream religious beliefs and rituals."
The parents practice Wicca, a contemporary pagan religion that emphasizes a balance in nature and reverence for the earth.
Cale J. Bradford, chief judge of the Marion Superior Court, kept the unusual provision in the couple's divorce decree last year over their fierce objections, court records show. The order does not define a mainstream religion.
Bradford refused to remove the provision after the 9-year-old boy's outraged parents, Thomas E. Jones Jr. and his ex-wife, Tammie U. Bristol, protested last fall."
What a nice judge. roll
First Amendment issue here or what?
What a nice judge indeed; extremely professional to allow his religious prejudice to arbitrate and inflict his moral values on others. roll
Welcome to the theocracy.
So, wicca man festival on the judges front lawn!!?? lol wink
Or for those of you old enough to remember, Wicker men, with the sex murderer glasses, walking up and down on the front lawn interviewing each other.
I don't understand why it was necessary to bring religion of any sort into the divorce settlement if they both believe the same thing. -?
It would make sense if one of them was objecting to it.
Also how can they continue their beliefs without exposing the son to it.
This Judge needs a swift kick up the arze if you ask me.
Sounds like they have a good hance of getting it overturned but it's all money and court time that will be wasted because of a judges idiotic attitude. evil
It will be overturned , who asked the judge for his opinion anyway ???
As Wicca is a federally recognized religion, I don't see how the judge can make this decision, especially as BOTH parents are Wiccan and there is no dispute between them over how the child is raised.
The boy is suposedly in a Catholic school right now also...
All religions need to watch this case... :x
As much as I personally disagree with the wiccan faith I wholeheartedly disagree with the judge's decision here. If one was wiccan and one was Christian or something, I could understand it, as others have said.
One more reason on the pile of "LGTFOH".

If the judge had ruled not to teach or practice christianity the whole bush brigade and right wing wackos would have been on his back .
Funny how far we have strayed from the freedom to *choice and practice your own religion concept * that the pilgrim fathers came here for .

That’s a common misconception, probably induced by the propaganda pamphlets that are passed off for school history books here. The pilgrim fathers could have stayed in England, which at the time was one of the most tolerant nations in Europe, if they could have been tolerant themselves. Instead they opted to hijack the Mayflower and try to set up their own little theocracy where they could be as intolerant as they pleased. God help you if you were not a puritan and you disembarked at Plymouth Rock.

I don't believe Myles Standish was a puritan and he was military advisor to the pilgrims. His history says he never joined the Plymouth church but did attend every Sunday - a rare moderate?
Supposedly, his family had switched from Catholic to Protestant so he probably knew better than anyone how destructive religion could be.
